Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: Michel Ancel thinking about leaving Ubisoft after Rayman Legends

Rumor has it that Rayman creator Michel Ancel could be leaving Ubisoft.

Long story short, Ancel would take a few employees with him – maybe five or six staffers – and start up a new project, perhaps with another company. This would provide Ancel with the opportunity to be more creative.

Ubisoft apparently has some idea that Ancel could be heading down a new path. Even if this does happen, the publisher could in some form.

Gamekult, the source of the speculation, also reports that one reason that Rayman Legends went multiplatform is because Nintendo and Ubisoft were unable to reach an agreement when it came to distributing and marketing of the game.

Ubisoft and Ancel are both denying all rumors for now.

hopefully this is true!

free the man up. He needs to be creative elsewhere.

If he does leave Ubisoft, Nintendo should grab him and get him to develop... let's call it Retro Europe, or maybe Retro France. Give him a lot of leeway, with just one requirement - he has to develop a new franchise comparable to Rayman within the next 3 years. He would have enough funding for three games within that time, with the other two games being practically entirely up to him. If he wants to make a spiritual sequel to BG&E, go right ahead. Prefer to branch out into something he hasn't done before? Fine. You get the idea.

Anyway, if he does leave Ubisoft, it'll be for the better, I think. The only sad thing will be that his existing franchises will end up dying... but at this point, it's almost unavoidable, as Ubisoft seem intent on screwing Rayman over, while blocking BG&E2, etc.

I guess that means no Beyond Good & Evil 2? Time to change my sig

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.
