Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 "FROM DEVELOPERS TO DEVELOPERS"...

where is the gamer inside that phrase? everything on the conference was about developers.

Better for developers = more games being made for the system.

More games being made for the system = better for the gamers.

It was exactly the type of news I wanted to hear from Sony. Also I'm not quite sure where this opinion that "Sony is only relying on power for the PS4" has come from. They spent much more time talking about how easy it is to work for, social features and how they where going to make playing games more conveniant. (No need to wait for downloads, sleep mode etc). It's nothing like the PS3 where they just went off and started trying to make the most powerful machine they could just for the sake of it.

For the industry itself, i expect it to schrink this generation. Maybe 20-30%. The economy is just too low and the console prices too high.

No the console price are not too high, they are way too low. I paid $2700 for my AppleII (and it didn't even say AppleII on the cover..) and that was _cheap_ then and I was happy..

The problem is that people expect 99c hamburgers with fries, $19 dvd players, $99 washing machines, $199 seven day full accomodation holidays in the carribean, etc. Anything higher and people start to endlessly bitch and moan. "Fair price for fair work" doesn't exist anymore in people's minds. They want $299 consoles that perform like triple SLI Titan gaming PCs, anything less is "unacceptably expensive". I know lots of frustrated people that created good stuff and mostly they got the typical "$x9.99 is way too much for this - you are robbing us" hammer.

My hardware breakdown (in another thread) comes to about $425 manfacturing costs so an estimated production cost of $600-$700 for the first batch of PS4s (same goes for NextBox). Can you at least see the frustration Sony and MS engineers must certainly feel when they see all those delusional "$300 is a good and fair price for the PS4/NextBox" ?

/end{rant}

facepalm..only on vgc..this is taken as a negative >_>

It's sad. I'm afraid the averige consumer is rather a demanding, cheap pr*ck. They mostly pay $300 for a dedicated console, no matter what's in it.

Edit: Though no one is forcing those Sony and MS engineers to make $600-$700 consoles. They could always choose the cheaper, and even Nintendo route.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Wait what the ps3 was critisised because it was to hard to develop for the developers. And now you critisise the ps4 because its easy to develop for it? Makes no sense to me.

And also easier to develop also means less time to produce a game which means less cost for the developer and more games for the gamer.

Think before you post such a stupidity.

No, it is everywhere. I think  the media is negative because the competitor is a USA product. I don't know about gamers, it is just blind fanboyism I guess.

Soooo... Basically Sony is damned if they do, damned if they don't? I am now completely convinced that people will complain about anything. You even throw two contradicting points right in the middle of your post!

If they put it out at a lower price point they will go under. If they release it over priced no one will buy it (which has been proven wrong by the PS3), and they will go under. Give me a break. I am, and you should be as well, excited that Sony is looking to make it easier to develop for. My hope is that they will drive this next gen as the lead development platform. They can only do that by making it easy to develop for.

The event was more for the developer. They want to show the developers what it is capable of and get them on board early. They want to drive the development cycle and this is the right step. E3 isn't here yet. Thats where you'll hear more about gamers directly and we should actually get to SEE the system itself.

Without stooping to bashing your grammar, I think your thoughts are a little scattered and of base. I think this is gonna be a great time for the PS brand. And a great time for the GAMER.

I think the problems mainstream media had with the event are different. Like things such as not showing the hardware itself, not addressing smart phone gaming (this one made me facepalm irl) etc

From dev to dev bit should be pretty straightforward to understand. This is the coming out party for the system. It's for gamers, developers and investors. They talked in detail on how features and games are created for the convenience and fun factor for gamers. The dev to dev bit was about the hardware. It's a piece of hardware made by devs for devs..as it should be. This is one of the biggest issues ps3 had. I mean who suffered due to that? Gamers. With the ps4..that is a non issue. Heck if rumors are true ps4 will most likely should end up with the best looking multiplat versions on consoles. As gamers we should give them props for this as it ultimately benefits us

ps: another reason why the dev focus was important was to encourage more developers to make games for the system :)

Its because it was a conference to its share holders and developers. The conference was by developers for developers. You can tell it wasnt directed at the gamers because they showed mainly tech demos and didnt actually show the console.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

"Why didn't Sony's event have any women" was gold. I was expecting some bashing for even the smallest things but not at this level.

Indeed if the developers are happy, we will be happy. PS4 will have none of the problems PS3 had, while building upon the strengths of PS4.
