Forums - Gaming Discussion - It's a mistake to think PS4/Next Xbox won't provide a generational leap in terms of graphics

Is there actually anyone who can claim this is not a leap?

Yoshinori Ono said this is real-time on PS4 - yes, it does look like it's rendered. But let's give a man the benefit of a doubt.

I'm calling BS on that one, but we'll see.

Well, there are some things that really look too good to be true there. I'm mostly impressed with animations and facial expressions, and how that light from the torch reacts with enviroment. On the other hand, I see lot of things that are more or less equal to UE4, and that was real-time. This just looks much more interesting and polished. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I dunno, man. The detail, lighting, AA, animation, fire, and even the little water particles all look superior to anything we've seen previously. It seems distinctly pre-rendered to me, just maybe with a few imperfections stuck in their to deceive the audience. I'd have a hard enough time believing that was running on a GTX690, much less a pre-release PS4 at 1080p. Also, they put that weapon select icon in the bottom left corner, as if to say that this was not only real-time, but actual gameplay, when it clearly wasn't.

Oh, I don't think it's actual gameplay either, too many wierd angles for that. But I believe it can be scripted tech demo that runs in real-time. Though, I know what you're saying, so many things look really way better than what we're used too. But, that would mean Ono lied...so for now I go with "it's plausible" that it was real-time.

Then yeah, it's possible to have a huge generational leap. However, considering that initial Xbox 360 games looked like this:

We could say that the generational leap won't exist. The graphics will get better, but in the end, it'll be similar to launch games.

I find your examples are .... interesting. For RFOM I think Perfect Dark 0 would be a better match, and possibily Genji 2 for the later. Genji 2 may not have been a critical hit, but it was a pretty game.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I'd sooner believe that Ono's lying through his teeth than believe that was realtime. That, or that he was deceived, but that would be even more unlikely.

E3 can't come soon enough.

Thats not a good comparison, I can show you parts of Kameo that look like Conker on Xbox.

See the huge difference between UC1 vs UC3 and Ratchet ToD vs Ratchet A Crack in Time.

Well, I just posted pictures of the launch games that I remembered. But, sure, it could be changed for the games you mentioned.

Well, Conker on Xbox looked awesome, so I don't know if what you're saying is a good or bad thing...

People said the same about the PS3/Xbox360. And the WiiU. Probably also about the Nextbox. This bickering doesn't deserve any attention.

The Wii u isn't a generational leap..

I agree, it's absolutely stunning.

The leap is actually far greater than I expected.
