Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do you think that historically more people preferred to do their gaming on consoles rather than PC?

convenience is the number one reason.

Like not enough space in the room or something else?

I would say more like you can just get a console, plug it in and play...no need to buy new graphics cards or whatever every time you want to play a spiffy new game ( or at least that's the perception...

cheaper too

There's a lot fewer people with gaming quality computers for technical and cost reasons.

At the end of the day, Joe-schmoe would rather pay $200-300 bucks for a console to plug into the TV and not bother with the technical details of building and maintaining a high spec PC.

Have you SEEN the average person's computer/laptop? It's a crawling nightmare of viruses, spyware, crapware, adware, icons, and just an overall mess.

Viruses, spyware, etc are serious problems now (not in the late 90's), yet it seems that PC gaming is catching up lately.

PRICE

3rd gen

NES/Master System - 199.99$

Commodore 64 - 595$

4th gen

Genesis - 190$
SNES - 199.99$

Amiga 500 - 699$

5th gen

More accessible, games are guaranteed to run on your console, local multiplayer (you said historically), more Japanese publisher support, 1st party franchises.

First Party titles mostly - 75%

Third Party Exclusives - 25%

PC had plenty of exclusives too. We could argue about console exclusives appealing to more people, though.

Playing games in console is very convenient and fast than playing games on PC.
