The thing is several people (me included) are caught in optimism and hope for a rare exception, or miracle. Then again, I've read today the position of a person that stated that there are other more important things that should be discussed like adoption, or social rights, that he doesn't want to get married but that he did wanted other rights. I can't go in further detail as I'm rather ignorant in the national legislation. I understand this position, but in a place with a conservative and catholic population, shouldn't we try to get small victories, while aiming patiently for big goals? |
Huh, weird, I heard a similar argument on the news awhile back (in England) but from the opposite side of the board. He was arguing that Christians need to stop focusing on gay marriage as a way of showing they are still an important part of society and should instead be trying to fight bigger battles (which to him was things like having a place in government). Considering he was openly against gay marriage (he said when questioned) I thought it was quite an admirable thing to concede, even if I personally don't agree with a lot of his other views.
However, unlike gays the Christians aren't the ones being discriminated against so I don't think the same rule of 'aim big, ignore the little things' applies as in order for big changes to happen, the small things need to become the norm and thus create a situation in which the big things no longer seem so big. (In otherwords, I agree with you).
