I use PS3 Media Server and PlayOn, haven't tried Plex. Streaming from PC should be a necessity going forward. I want something besides MP4 on my Vita.

I agree that a DLNA compliant device is much better... I had Serviio + SamsungTV two years ago and was suprised how well it worked.

MP4? Is that the format you need that videoplayer that comes with iTunes?

Yes. It's currently the most common web and mobile video format. And thanks to that, I've been able to stream content to my WiiU!

Really? Thought it was mkv, all my movies and anime are in that format.

He should have specified that  as "most common low-mid res streaming format". The good stuff all is mkv, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a site that streams in mkv. If you have one - please PM me :)

That's cool. The text entry and clicking on links is still cumbersome though. Maybe in an update.

mkv and mp4 both have the same video codec in side x264 (h264) but are different containers that is all.

mkv allows multiple audio streams and soft subs to be embedded where as mp4 does not.

Don't want to start confusing containers and codecs... mkv is common for HD content, meanwhile MP4's are substituting the good old avi. EDIT: beat by Cobretti2.

OT: I don't think I mentioned that Plex transcodes, meaning in broad terms that your content doesn't need to be mp4.
