Forums - Sales Discussion - Will 2013 be the first year the Ps3 sells more software than the X360?

Ever year this gen the 360 has sold more software than the ps3. With the next gen consoles arriving this year, and lack of many AAA exclusives for the 360, do you think Ps3 will finally lead between the HD twins? It'll be interesting to see by years end. It'll be really damn close, but I do think the Ps3 has it in it.

For reference:

Total X360 SW for 2012: 135,533,045

Total Ps3 SW for 2012: 127,435,756

Probably not. It got really close in 2010 (131m vs 133m) and was within 6m the next year, if I remember correctly, but I don't think there's much of a chance PS3'll overtake 360 this year.

Could somebody remind me of what major exclusives PS3 has this year again?

god of war. it also has the last of us which from the pre-order chartz (if they are correct) seems to be doing pretty good. they also have beyond two souls, for comparasion heavy rain did over 2 million. they also got a really interesting 2D platformer puppeteer, from the looks of it it can sell as well as LPB, but i doubt it.

We have 0 official software numbers for 360 from MS, in shipments I expect the 2 to be very close, 360 probably wins but I don't think there is a +100m difference.

other than the ones Banaking mentioned there's Ninokuni and Sly (which will hopefully have good legs they deserve waaaay more than a million each but that's what I'm hoping for), but also we have to think that as the install bases are very close and no Halo for 360 pretty much makes up the gap from last year so I'll say it happens.

1. The Last of Us.

2. God of War: Ascension.

3. Beyond: Two Souls

4. Ni No Kuni

5. The Witch and the Hundred Knights

6. Tales of Xillia

7. Until Dawn

8. Puppeteer

9. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

10. MLB 13: The Show

Here you go!

I hadnt realised that xbox had dominated the software sales so thoroughly. Ultimately I dont really care about software sales. am happy with what Im getting from sony and thats all thats important for me.

PS3+PS2 software sales were 151.2M in 2012. Assuming PS2 S/W sales didn't drop from 2011, that would be at least 142.3M for the PS3 but it's likely about 148M for the PS3.

So we know that in 2012 Halo 4 (one Xbox 360 exclusive) sold almost more than all PS3 exclusives combined, we also know that it is not rare that a game sells better on X360.

Still some expect PS3 to sell more software why ?

Because the PS3 is more popular worlwide? And also because we don't have any data on how much software the 360 sells every year.
