Forums - Sales Discussion - Will Vita start outselling WiiU now?

Which console will come out on top this year?

WiiU 256 51.51%

Vita 135 27.16%

They will be about even 49 9.86%

No idea 35 7.04%

Show results 22 4.43%

Total:497

I think the Vita has a real good shot at outselling the Wii U after the 28th. Unless Nintendo does a price cut soon, Wii U is going to fall even lower in Feb. Sony is confronting the usual downtick in sales after Jan with a price cut. Actually, considering the US usually sells for cheaper in Japan, and the new Vita price is ~$200 in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if the new Vita price in the US is ~$179.99. So, around $10 more than the 3DS. That may be too irresistible for some.

Edit: I also see a Black Friday bundle for $149.99 w/ a game and memory card, so that should help sales for the Vita, as well.

Well, no offence to this OP, but I really didn't see this OP is relative. Why not compare PSV with 3DS? Both are handheld systems and both strugged in sales in the beginning and both got price drop.

If Vita cannot outsell 3DS after the price drop, what can save Vita and what else can help Vita to catch up 3DS?

I like my Vita and hope it can win the competition.

No way is the Vita going to get close to the 3DS. 3DS is regularly outselling the Vita over 5:1 with many, many heavy-hitters still to come this year. In Japan (the only area where the price cut is confirmed) it's not unusual for it to be more like 10:1, indeed this week it was 17:1, roughly.

Even if they were to cut the price to $99, it still wouldn't outsell the 3DS.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Maybe, if they follow up with more on the 20th

There is no point of comparing the Vita to the 3DS anymore, it is too late for it to win. The 3DS is already ahead by 25M.  At this point the only thing that could help the Vita beat the 3DS would be pricing it incredibly low, or giving it away for free, both of which would cause Sony to take gigantic losses that they cant afford.

Quick answer: Not without games.

Wii U's in a drought right now, but there's much more on its horizon than Vita's.

I just can't see the Vita price cut producing any long term sales boost so no.

So, is Vita saved or not after today's event?

I saw GAF is so disappointed.

I really think Vita's poor sales is not related to the price, but because of no games. Back to E3 2011, everyone was pleased with the Vita's price due to its high spec.

Sony can simply save Vita by announcing new games without price cut, in my opinion.

If the summary in our Vita event thread is correct, then the Vita isn't saved. They showed new trailers and gameplay footage for games that were already announced and added a price cut for the hardware on top of it. They had to announce new games to make the event meaningful.

The conveyed message was "This is all we've got." and that's simply not enough to turn things around. The price cut and lineup in the next two months are decent, but by the looks of it, there isn't going to be much beyond that, so weekly sales will probably be back to around 10k units quickly.

This is exactly as I felt, aside from it was more "This is all you're getting" really. It was far, far from stellar, about as I predicted really. Of course, people will spin it one way or the other, but there simply wasn't enough new stuff in it to make people really surprised and have hope that there may be some way back for the Vita on the horizon.

The thing is, they sort of blew their chance to announce games today really. I don't expect to see anything of worth for the Vita on Wednesday, so it's GDC or E3 at the earliest now.

And this is just for Japan. The Western scenario is far worse.
