Let's face it, knowing what you're talking about isn't really a prerequisite for working in game retail.

I'm sure there are plenty of informed employees who do their job well, but there's also some real jokers.

There was this guy at my local EB who would always try and steer people towards the 360 version of multiplats, especially in my case as I was usually buying them for Wii. I can understand him suggesting the 360 version of Rayman Origins, but it got pretty funny when he tried to tell me to buy No More Heroes 2, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories on 360.

I did once come across a female employee back in 2007 who didn't know what the Wii Classic Controller was despite it being in the glass cabinet behind her.



I went to Gamestop looking for a wired 360 controller to plug into my pc. I asked the clerk for a new one and he told me M$ doesn't sell them anymore because they didn't sell well or some bull crap like that. I went to Best Buy and got one for $30 (think it was on sale or something).



A gamestop employe tried to tell me there was no LBP for the vita... Was the last time i bought something there.



Launch day of Uncharted 2, i'm the first customer in the shop, the employee behind the counter, a large stack on Uncharted 2 copies in front of him, apparently the shipment they had received but not yet put away.

Me: "Unchated 2 please"

Employee: "did you have it preordered?"

Me: "no"

Employee: "Oh my, you should have it preordered"

Me: "why?" pointing at the stack in front of him "are they all already sold"

Employee "no"

Me: "then i buy one of them now"

Empolyee: "well... ok, but next time preorder"

lol wow that just made my morning.  They're just like trained dogs with their pre-order pushing now.  He should've said "no you don't get those unless you pre-order now and then come back in in an hour or so to pick it up!"

i once over-heard a gamestop employee dismiss an customer question by saying xbox doesn't have a required fee to play games online. i corrected him and the women, confused, left not buying any system. the gamestop employee yelled at me for wrecking the sale and kicked me out of the store.

You did the right thing!  Misinformation is a vile way to sell a product.  I'm suprised they could kick you out of the store for that tho.

 

I must have been blessed with all my purchases at stores cause (minus them pushing pre-orders and guides down my throat) my purchases usually go off with out a hitch.
