Forums - Sony Discussion - Eurogamer: PS4 May Include Cloud-Based PS3 BC

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-16-the-ps4-to-feature-cloud-based-backwards-compatibility-report

Sounds good on paper, but the key issue is going to be performance and pricing. How exactly will this work in practice? WIll it be free, part of PS+ or a seperate paid service entirely? If they pull it off, it'd be godlike, but that's going to be difficult at best.

Thoughts?

It'll probably be part of Playstation Plus. No way Sony will let people freely use their servers, espeically if Gaikai ends up on PCs, Smarphones and Tablets as well.

Oh, definitely. That kind of service will be a massive drain if it does happen. They aren't giving that out for free.

This could be separate from plus I think. Gaikai for $50 a year (demos, trials, and BC), + for $50 a year, $75 a year for both in a bundle or something.

Probably through PS+. If people are worrying about server demand, there are only so many hours in an hour that someone can play a game. Essentially if they can place it under a subscription they can guarantee the cost is covered.

I just hope they allow physical disks to unlock streaming access and I can stream all of my digital purchases. Well, that and internet speeds are fast enough to do it effectively.

EDIT: and that goes for all PS+ offerings. There is only so much time someone can play something. The costs are measurable.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I wouldn't be surprised if they do a tiered version of PS+ for next gen. tbh

Sadly saw this coming...to move forward they had to get rid of the cell ..sucks

Idea is to say you have the old content on your machien for sale, but make sure that owners of the new console can't play their old titles, so you can resell it.  This looks like a way to try to answer the riddle of how you get people to buy the same content over and over and over again.

Why separate it?  Why not just have it as another level to Playstation Plus for PS4 owners?

Because then you would need one to have the other.  Some people may just want gaikai so let them have it for less than the price of both but incentivize people to get both with the bundle discount (some don't want Sony to pick their games no matter how awesome plus is)

Yeah, I'd prefer having the two separate myself.
