So...PS3 has more Netflix use, Blu-Ray, 7.1 DTS Master-Audio support. Meanwhile, you have to pay a yearly price just to unlock most of the entertainment features on 360.

ps3 does have DVD, as well as blueray. and no, you dont have to pay to unlock "most of the game features" if your talking about PS+. then your paying for discounts, free games and early access to beta's and more stuff. tell me, which one sounds like a better "entertaiment console", i get what your trying to say lol but its just mostly wrong what you pointed out

Paying for dicounts is such a funny term to me

fuck, searching for your comment was like searching for a needle in a haystack. holy fuck was that hard lol! and it if were just discounts i would see the funny part too. but we both know PS+ offers so much more, and so much value for what your paying

Oh, wow, you really got us PS3 users there, didn't you? /sarcasm

PS3's can play and download CDs and DVDs as well. Also plays Blu-rays and upscales the DVDs to a slightly higher resolution.

Really people? I thought from the onset it was decided that the PS3 was the better entertainment console while the 360 was the better gaming console of this gen?

Ps3 has more AAA console exclusives according to metacritic. Therefore it's the better entertainment center. (two points for anyone who understands this tribute).

AAA means the budget of the game not the score, also the Wii has 14 games over 90 on Metacrtic.

I have never understood how XBL Gold is better than what you get on PS3 for free. The difference in playing one game online with the 360 and then on the PS3 is... zero imo. The only difference to me is Party Chat. Maybe the quality of the audio for voice chat (depends on the mic others are using).

XBL Gold is just a pay wall imo. If you want to play the game you just bought, all 100% of it then you need XBL Gold. If you want to watch Netflix or other services over your 360, you need XBL Gold. True that $60 a year or $5 a month isn't much. But there isn't any value there either. Paying for XBL Gold doesn't give you anything not found on the PS3 or PC that would otherwise be free (except Party Chat when compared to PS3)

Again imo

there isnt value in a #3 at mcdonalds but people buy it.  i think its so laughable at all the live bashers worrying about what others do with their money.  as soon as sony came out with plus now paying for somethingis good.  i have both just because $100 a year is less than i spend going to the movies twice a month.  some of you pay monthly for porn sites.  whats the value in that? add in the lotion, sanitation wipes, towels, new keyboard and live seems like a bargain

I wouldn't try to divide gamers into subgroups but seriously I don't see the people who only buy/play what is trendy so they can talk about it with their friends as gamers. That is obviously just MY perception, but that's what I believe. They aren't in it for the games at all. They don't care about new or upcomming games unless it has a lot of attention behind it.  Those same people probably don't know what the NPD Group is (Or if it's divided into regions) so to them, which i'm sure Microsoft knows, the percieved message is still "Microsoft is the best".

A quote from that post in Gaf from a Microsoft PR rep about the Feb 20th Sony announcement -"So in terms of noise our job will be to ensure that the consumers that are going into stores, going online, still see and experience Xbox, rather than get lost in the industry chatter".

In my opinion that translates to:  We want to keep those consumers who don't know much about the industry or what the competition has to offer still thinking we are the absolute best by making sure they see our brand everywhere and believe it's because we are awesome.

It's almost like they are admitting their fanbase doesn't look into the competition or know much about gaming at all. To me that sounds slightly insulting, as if they KNOW that by blasting advertisments their fanbase won't look at anything else, regardless of how great it may be.

I think if the majority of the 360 fanbase for whatever reason suddenly started to become actually interested in the hobby or the games themselves instead of what is trendy, Microsoft would have some serious tweaking to do when it comes to their strategy in the gaming business.

I also wouldn't say the Microsoft fanbase is less vocal at all. Especially at the beginning of this gen, they were the loudest and most antagonizing of the three by far. Things have turned round for the Playstation 3 and I think more and more people who are real gamers are starting to notice (thank god) and that's why you see a lot less Microsoft fans on the internet now compared to fans of the other 2. Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't think the 360 fanbase is any less intelligent lol, just that I personally feel most of them are driven by popularity rather than passion.

Yeah I see sales discussions all the time by any of the three for sure. But more often than not when discussing games i'll often see a comment like "Well X company doesn't have any games that sell THIS many". Most of them act like stock holders rather than gamers.

Again, no disrespect to anyone. These are just my opinions from what I have experienced.

In reference to the quote, that is  what all companies do. They attempt to keep their product in the spotlight and keep attention away from other competing products. I see nothing in that statement that would even suggests what you are inferring.  A lot of gamers are mainly Xbox gamers, and I'm sure many have just as much, or more, knowledge and dedication to gaming than you or I. To say that real gamers chose the PS, as well as assuming the majority of 360 fans aren't real gamers, seems like some pretty arrogrant statements. Gamers have different tastes and preferences, that's why all 3 home consoles have sold so well this generation. There are also primarily PC gamers and handheld gamers as well.

The Xbox fanbase has been less vocal than the PS fanbase. Especially as a whole. Talk regarding this generation started last generation. The Xbox was ridiculed constantly, and it was about how little it sold compared to the PS. Yes, PS fans constantly talk about sales as well. In the beginning of this generation, it was just wait until the PS3 is released. It really was expected that they would fight back and ridicule the PS3 for the less than dominating start that was proclaimed by it's loyal fans. Then there was all the RROD vs how PS3 had no games; there were also a lot of comments on wait til next year and how every new year was going to be the year of the PS.

As for the sales part, there are plenty of discussion over sales of PS games against Xbox games. Gran Turismo versus Forza, Uncharted and Gears of War, etc. Can you really say that PS fans don't claim that Gran Turismo sales are better than Forza's?

Anyway, enough of this. As you say it is your opinion; good day.

Was that your idea? To wait for me to slip up and POUNCE on that? lol w/e. My point was sales (sustainability), I wrote profitability while in the moment. Forgive my grave error ;)

Its a simple opinion...using declining numbers over time I say the IPs are underperforming. You say "you can't prove anything". Well woop-de-do, thats just my take based on whatever concrete info the site offers, and im sorry that it hit a nerve enough that you had to get into a prolonged discussion trying to tell me that my opinion doesn't agree with you.

Oh you haven't hit any nerves (in fact, it would appear like you're the one with sweaty temples). Truth is I don't care to prove you wrong, I would have preferred to learn something new here (hence why my first reply was in the form of a "?"). But alas, I didn't, so my suspicions remain unchanged - MM and Sucker Punch will remain worthwhile investments.

@Sales2099 - I always find it hilarious the way you so desperately try to put sony down in order to make up for MS's shortcomings (in the gaming department if you were wondering).

In addition to what cgi has already mentioned it should be noted that Sony only bought Sucker Punch AFTER Infamous 2 had launched which means that I2 was profitable and that sony were very happy with the product. With regards to LBP - sales of the retail game do not show the whole story. LBP arguably brought new innovations with its "Play Create Share" idea which sony has adopted hugely as well as the LBP IP itself. Add to this the huge number of DLCs that the LBP franchise has no doubt sold so far and is still selling in fact (potentially even more than the revenue from the retail game itself) and it is very possible that the franchise  could be even more profitable than GeOW.

All I see you trying to do is spin the story so that xbox comes out in a good light. Lets face it - sony have sold a number of devs lately but that is not surprising in the context of the current environment and sony's situation and it only makes sense to let go of lesser studios. You dont see anyone blaming sony for this or bad feelings - they are doing what they have to and they only started closing studios down when they got into trouble. You dont see the same from MS - from what I understand they are extremely profitable and making billions from the xbox and you still see them closing studios.

First the McD's thing makes no sense imo

Second I don't care how people spend their money. Only pointed out the difference in services. Paying for XBL Gold allows you play online. Nothing more. It's a pay wall. Your experience playing a game online with XBL Gold is the same as playing it on PC or PS3.

Microsoft probably has created a better multimedia environment.

That being said, it's games that matter. Not Netflix, not Redbox, not ESPN, not YouTube.

Just give me a disc drive, a CPU, some RAM and processors, and wrap it all up in plastic, metal, and glass. Support it with awesome games. All the other applications and multimedia functions are just gravy.

I don't get how people can say that.  One can play blu-rays and support 7.1 surround, the other can't.  One lets you access almost all the apps of the other one FREE while the other one charges $60 for you to do so every year.  Which one sounds more like the entertainment hub now?

Consider this, you have to be a Gold member to get access to all the entertainment apps on the 360. However, no amount of money is gonna get you access to those same apps on PS3. So even a little extra to use those apps, the 360 still offers more multimedia options.

The high quality sound and picture of Bluray! Well players start at about $50 now. Bluray players seem to do a great job at supporting the rental industry, because I don't know many people actually buying Bluray movies.

Lol, what a contradiction. First you say you can't get the apps on PS3 no matter what you pay..ok, that's fine. Then you say you can buy a blu-ray player if you only have a 360! Not only that but you justify it by saying "I don't know many people actually buying Blu-Rays" - another logical fallacy. But you're forgetting the most important thing: You can get EVERYTHING, and yes, I mean everything and a lot more than the 360 has on your everyday PC. Logical fallacies are the greatest.

The point is I can't think of any TV devices that are at par with the 360. The only thing you can come up with is a PC, but that's not ideal for less savvy users. Maybe some Windows 8 or Android device will close that gap in the future.

If I care strictly about multimedia, I'd lose the PS3 and get a Bluray player. I'd stay with the 360 because its the best machine for streaming media other than a PC.

Crackle (rarely), Netflix, youtube, etc. are available on PS3.  Sure it can do ESPN I guess but I can watch highlights on my computer (same applies for the other ones too I guess).  My point is not really worth $60 in my estimation, but whatever.  Also high quality sound and Bluray are things you can't get on 360 no matter what you pay so same logic applies and my bluray collection says that does matter.

No, you can get high quality picture and sound on Xbox. It just doesn't play Bluray.

If you really care about Bluray, I'd recommend a Bluray player. But for streaming media, 360 is one of the best devices. Especially compared to other home consoles.

People aren't just paying $60 to access multimedia. Most people pay for online gaming and also take advantage of other online features. For example, I pay the fee to play games, but others and I often use my account for streaming media as well.

Now lets stop pretending $60 is a lot of money for the amount of entertainment the 360 offers. Between online gaming, streaming media, and game discounts, Gold is well worth having. I spent like $60 last on drinks and food last night, that was just a single night of entertainment.

If a person bought a PS3 and a 360 in 06 they probably thought the 360 was $200 cheaper.  Instead they've ended up paying $420 just to play online.  Also PS3 streams stuff just fine.  $60 is the price of a full new retail game.  Also you made my point people are paying to access online gaming, which is free on PS3.  If you think cross game chat (which I've never actually seen anyone use and probably wouldn't myself since I'm normally talking to people in game when do play online and want to be immersed in SP games) is worth the price of a game a year then fine but I don't.

Oh boy... you're gonna keep arguing moneY? You aren't considering the games. My favorite games to play online aren't on the PS3. Hence, I payed extra to play the games I enjoy. I don't want settle with crap on PS3 because its free to play.

Its actually less than $420 because it became $60 just a few years ago. But that doesn't sound like a lot of money for 7 years of entertainment.

Spin it all you want, but the 360 is actually one of my cheapest entertainment expenses that I get a lot of value from. It doesn't matter if I can save money just playing my PS3 online. The problem is I don't care for what PS3 offers so its not worth my time even for free.
