"The Lockheed Martin X-35 was an experimental aircraft developed by Lockheed Martin for the Joint Strike Fighter Program. It was declared the winner over the Boeing X-32 and went on to enter production in the early 21st century as theF-35 Lightning II"

Playstation = name on the box.
PS-X = dev name.
PSX = different console.

It's a simple as that. Why people insist on calling a console by the dev name is beyond me.

Playstation has no X in it, or any word that can be abbreviated to X, ergo cannot be abbreviated to PSX.

Calling the Playsation the PS-X is exactly the same as calling the 360 the Xenon. Calling it the PSX is completely wrong. That's like calling the N64 the GC.

k, I won't repeat myself, so I'll leave you with this:

http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-6979.html

The rest is just history, so deal with it. I don't like when people try to re-write history, I'm not a fan of it.

G/L convincing the others :P

So you think the PS-X would have been identical to the consumer playstation?

That's not how industry works. What is history is that people insist on calling the Playstation the wrong name. Have fun being wrong.

I said I wouldn't repeat myself.

I'll make one exception then I'm gone: the dolphin and the cube are one and the same. Dolphin is a codename, not a prototype name... The same applies for PS-X and Playstation, they are one and the same. The F-35 and X-35 are not one and the same.

Do the math.

No one calls the GC the dolphin so why call the Playstation the PSX?
Dolphin & PS-X = codename for the prototype.
Gamecube and Playsation = release names for the consoles
X-35 = prototype F-35

There's the math and it looks mighty fine. Mighty fine indeed.

It was called the psx back in the 90s when it was first released

It was never officially called the PSX. That was the code name intended for the devs.

Denial, you're good at it.

What?! That was the common abbreviation and used widespread back then and was even printed on labels and used in magazines at least here in the states it was a very common term for consumers

The Playstation was never offically called the PS-X for consumers. All that happened was that some guys forgot to drop the dev name for it.
That's reality. No denial needed.

Just for fun here's another one:

Just google it....

Yet another PSX mag from way back, this time from Poland. In my country the first Playstation has always been refered to as PSX and I'm going to stick to that. It just looks awesome :)

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

If anything ps1 has no official meaning and since you're arguing semantics the official abbreviation as it became known as after the ps2 released and they released the slimmed down playstation became psone
