Just throwing this out there.

For me, the closest we got to buying at launch date at my house was for the PS1. We got that a few months after launch.

The longest would probably be the Dreamcast, which I bought for $60 something like 4 years after it was discontinued in the States.

The closest for me was the Nintendo 64. I got it a month later after its launch date.
The longest was the gamecube. I bought it 2 years ago.

I bought my Dreamcast on launch day after waiting in line at midnight.

I bought my original Playstation used through a friend of a friend just before the release of Metal Gear Solid. I had a Sega Saturn so I didn't feel the need to own a Playstation until MGS.

Wii on launch day, Sega Saturn in 2010.

The closest would be Wii. I got that on launch second.
The longest would be the Wii U. I won't be getting that flop (lol, I'm so mean) till next Holiday.

PSVITA, Bought it a week after launch.

Wii, bought it 6 years after launch for $30, sold it a month later.

I got an Xbox that first Christmas after it released. My mom went to the Dept store to go get me a PS2 but they were all sold out so she thought the Xbox was pretty much the same thing so she got me that and Halo. I openend it up on Christmas morning and was super ecstatic because I had recently played Halo at my Cousins house and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

So thats like a month and a half after release. Btw I got a PS2 about 6 months later so that was like 2 years from its launch.

I got a 360 a little less than a year after its launch. That was the first time I saw it available in a dept store and it came with a free game. I got Call of Duty 3. Wow that game sucked lol but at the time i thought it had the greatest graphics ever.

Soonest would probably be PS3. Bought it around 8-12 months after launch. Longest was Wii. Bought it a year ago and haven't really touched it since. Not my type of console TBH.
