Forums - Gaming Discussion - MCV: "Devil May Cry fans to blame for DmC sales disappointment"

Shock and Awe, alienating and insulting your fanbase can hurt sales.  The commentary by MCV is pretty hilarious as well.  Yes, it was all about Dante's hair, and nothing about a series with fast, technical combat being given to a mediocre developer who has emphasized presentation over gameplay.  Also, why does a game that has seen all its releases in the 21st century need to be reinvented for it?

But yeah, keep blaming the consumers.  I'm sure that'll help the sales of the sequel if they make one...

EDIT: I almost forgot Ninja Theory is a UK studio, certainly explains why MCV would defend them to death.

Anyone who played Devil May Cry 4 must surely of seen how desperately the IP needed an injection of new ideas and modernisation

No I'm afraid I wasn't aware of that. And because DMC4 is the best selling entry in the series I guess the public at large wasn't aware of that either.

Well, now you are. And to think, you could of gone your entire life being ignorant of that fact that if Ben Parfitt wouldn't of brought it to your attention.

DMC is great. Too bad ninja theory really deserved to have this sell well.

This happens if you alienate (or in this case - troll) your fanbase, I guess. Not that the DmC fanbase was a good fanbase anyways...

This. Ninja Theory pissed on the face of the fans multiple times. This is why public relations isnt about confrontation.

Still, i dont think the game didnt perform due to the color of the air. Its just that its a completely different game and people wanted DMC5.

Despite all that, 1.2 million is ok. Its better than what ensalved did.

Good job now Capcom will be scared to reboot Resident Evil :/

If they change the basic story and the main characters, I wont buy it just like with Dmc.

It's not there yet.  It has shipped 1 million, and they hope to ship another 200k by the end of March.  Unless US sales perform opposite to Japan and the UK, it will be nowhere near 1 million sell through.

How is it a completely different game? Is it a racing game now? The gameplay looks pretty similar to me, and the combos look cool as ever.

By that same logic MGRising: Revengence is the next DmC.
