Forums - Gaming Discussion - MCV: "Devil May Cry fans to blame for DmC sales disappointment"

So, let me get this straight. They completely change the well loved main character, make drastic changes to the gameplay, ignore all complaints by the fans--going so far as to troll them with that ridiculous little "Dante Wig" scene, and generally take a massive shit all over the original fanbase, and it's the fan's fault that the game flopped? Now, I am by no means a DMC fan, but what the hell did Capcom expect after the crap they pulled? They basically sent the game out to die with their attitude.

er, no, they just changed the characters hair.

Thing is Dante's character does't even get anywhere close to himself.  Either as the brooding man in the first game, or the over the top joker in the third/fourth game.  Zero is just mentioning that his hair color turns completely white in the last cutscene of the game.

Well, I did read some comments that claimed this Dante "evolved" throughout the game, although I also read people disagreeing, so I don't know... I have to give the benefit of the doubt here... What's your take here ?

And I want to believe that zero129 was talking about more than just the hair when he brought that up...

Dante's character doesn't really change throughout the game.  Unless you consider him falling in love change, which isn't really too implicit either.  It's pretty much what you see is what you get.  It's just to show that he's started using his devil powers he gets a white patch after you get devil trigger.  Then in the last cutscene his hair completely turns white, that's pretty much it.  Ninja Thoery pretty much created the hipster version of Dante and that never changes in the game.

Thats where your wrong as the game goes on your can see him becoming more mature, he starts to care about other people more etc. I wouldnt just call that "He starts to fall in love" unless you want to over simplify his charactars development.

You're assuming he never cared in the first place.  He wouldn't have accepted Virgil's proposal if he didn't.  He never became more mature he stayed the same, unless there's some cutscene I missed.  Only thing that develops is his interest in Kat.

Edit: And he finds out about his heritage, which doesn't change the way he behaves.

I see... Having seen another review on Youtube today that focused on the story (a silly, silly review...), I tend to agree with you. It just seems that the character doesn't react much to the events of the game... Even when he supposedly cares, you don't see it reflected on himself, just on his actions. I don't see any sign of it becoming a character I could identify with. And while I don't consider that to be an absolute requirement to enjoy a story, it's something that needs to be compensated somehow...

To each his own though.

It's not like Dante doesn't have any personality in this game, cause he does, it's just what you see is what you get.  You find out about his heritage, the story progresses nicely, but Dante himself doesn't have much character development.  Story has a lot of development though.

yeah pretty much

i think it's a tie between DmC and PSASBR for the most disgraceful death

I don't know. I think FF13 Lightning Returns could beat them to the punch.

FF13-2 sold less than half the copies of FF13, and its not like they tried to chance the name of FF13-3 to Lightning Returns to avoid the stigma of the FF13 brand... oh wait they did.

Not to mention the game is going to feature some awsome dress up action. How can the game fail.

Its not like its rumoured they want to launch FF13 Versus to the PS4 now because the reputation of the FF13 might affect the sales.

But I guess all that is NInja Theory's fault right!

You mean dressing Lightning up like a rummage sale reject, a sexy samaurai, a princess, in fish boots (70's style like a baller, bitch!), in a fish belt, like a clown, and like Serah even though "Our costumes reflect the character's personality in Final Fantasy" ISN'T to your liking?

(Yes, this is meant to be sarcastic)

They can't be stopped...

Don't follow, are you insulting FF13?

Don't care about dressing up games, Final Fantasy was an RPG series now its been reduced to some teen soap opera with automated combat. To add insult to injury the third game will feature one of the worst characters in the series the only playable character. Well at least you can dress her up now, thats all I want from a game with Final Fantasy on the box. Yes thats is meant to be sarcastic.

Either way its not NInja Theory's fault FF13 turned out that way.

Lol. Look forward to your Playboy fanservice. I'll be enjoying games that don't objectify women to generate sales. At least that cup size will compensate for Lightings empty personality.

Don't worry I'll send some death threats to Ninja Theory on your behalf for writing relatable female characters without increasing their cup size.

(Yes, that was mean to tbe sarcastic).

The only thing this game did wrong was being called DMC.
Fans are whores
