Forums - Gaming Discussion - MS winning a region=locked down, Sony winning a region=vulnerable

Some people see momentum generation to generation in which case xbox is in the ascendency and playstation has been falling hard.

Personally I see it as a fresh start for each manufacturer.

Just a general theme I've seen from people with all this next gen talk.  Why is MS having the US seen as this locked in thing?  You guys remember that up to 05 the US was Sony domination?  Remember after that Wii was the most popular console there?  1 Remember that Sony gave MS a year's lead and a $200 price advantage this gen?  Remember in Europe it was almost a year and a half and that same 200 euro advantage? 2  It just seems ridiculous that everyone says Sony has no chance in the US and that Europe will be the battleground that MS will be battling for.  Sony was on the defensive this past gen as they launched late and had to push blu-ray.  This gen they have more studios that have been dormant (presumably making PS4 games) and so it only stands to reason that they will have more games ready this time.  They won't be that much more expensive if at all without a super expensive drive this time (unless they try to make a super expensive controller).  They won't be launching a year later (announcing first most likely).  So why is it a lock for MS to own US and questionable for Sony to hold Europe?

1.  Ok, I know have talked to you about this before, but you still seem to bring it up.  Any disadvantage the ps3 had due to price was easily offset by the incredibly high failure rate of the 360.  The 360 had a TERRIBLE launch, from both a hardware and software perspective.  Sony certainly gave Microsoft an oppurtunity, but they squandered it allowing the ps3 to make serious comeback.  There is no point in bringing up one bad launch if you are going to ignore the other bad launch.  Fact is, they both launched terribly.

2.  I wouldn't call it ridiculous for people to say this.  I'm not so arrogant as to say Microsoft has a lock on America, but they have a much higher chance of holding this ground than sony does of holding Europe.  Just look at the totals right now,  360 has sold more than 15% more than the ps3 in America, while ps3 has only sold 6% more than the 360 in Europe.  People looking at current trends and making a prediction isn't ridiculous.

I feel like it will be the same as this gen actually. The xbox is the "cool" console there.

This is how i see it.

Next Gen

North America: Sony 45% Microsoft 55%

Europe: Sony 75% Microsoft 25%

Japan: Sony 99.9% Microsoft 00.1%

WorldWide: Sony 85% Microsoft 15%

Sony domination, AGAIN!!

Did Nintendo die or something in your world?

No, PS4 and Nextbox combined just will sell 7Bil consoles, making Nintendo irrelevant.

Wishful thinking and extreme bias. Don't read too much into forum comments.

Problem is people thinking that Sony can keep 2 or 3 regions under lockdown... That is beyond unrealistic. A corporation only has so many resources they can allocate and we all know Sony is the worst of the bunch right now.

Sony will have to make a choice this gen where to emphasize their resources. If Sony is smart they will invest in Europe to keep it on lockdown and expand to other markets such as Brazil and China which would take far less resources than say NA.

Yeah US is a lock for MS next gen

Sorry if that irritates you... But yeah, it's a given.

People said the same thing about PS3. look what happened.

Nothing is locked-in. You're just flaming.

How about 8 Billion? We have to take into account that the world's popultion is growing quite fast and that babies will even buy the NexBox and PS4.
