Smash shortage threatens Japan

In what must be the biggest threat to Japan since Godzilla, reports are coming in that retailers might not be able to meet demand for Super Smash Bros. Brawl come January 31st. According to Canned Dogs, Lepton (a games retailer in Japan) bemoans that the store is only getting 154 copies of the game from Nintendo. That's not even close to meeting the 800 preorders that the retailer has received, let alone walk-ins. Lepton is even paying over retail price to get Brawl from other sources (meaning they'll lose money by selling the game), so that the store can honor more of its preorders. Because the entire country seems to be facing shortages, though, Lepton has only been able to come by 100 extra units, even at inflated prices.

Total shipment is 300k - 400k for the first WEEK? WTF?

I know Nintendo is dominating the world and all, but they must be pretty stupid with all these shortages and all... I understand Wii shortages, nobody predicted the demand, but even I can see there will be about 300k people waiting in line to get SSBB on the FIRST DAY.

Nintendo sucks at estimating demand, they should be more optimistic. I guess they got too used to be the loser after the last 2 generations.

I did say a few days ago that Amazon was not taking pre-orders.

Nintendo is short on Wii's and on Super Smash Bros. Brawl too. What is going on at the Mario Factory?

I don't get it, Microsoft was able to manufacture over 6 million copies of Halo 3 for it's launch yet Nintendo is having trouble producing more than 400 thousand copies of Brawl for it's launch week?

Legend11, don't forget there is a delay for SSBB in NA because not enough copies produced.

Try to make Wiifit, Wii, SMG, Wiiplay, Wii Sports, SSBB for Japan and NA, and othres softwares all at once.
They don't have enough factories for that.

Then make more factories. These shortages are really starting to annoy me. It's as if Nintendo just doesn't want to rule the universe.
