Who do you feel will have the better gen 8 console?

Nintendo 43 15.25%

Sony 184 65.25%

Microsoft 44 15.60%

Something else 11 3.90%

Total:282

Consoles aren't even announced yet lol. I don't think anybody will dominate. The gaming industry has changed since the Ps2 days.

I think the order will be this
1. Nintendo
2. Sony
3. Microsoft

Until Nintendo actually loses, they are the more successful console maker, even without counting handhelds. I think Sony and Microsoft will be close but Sony learns it's mistake of horrible launch prices/no games and takes the momentum.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

No, Orbis will come in 3rd

Well, I think it depends on how you define "dominate". Although I am a MS fan, I admit that PS4 has the biggest chance to lead in the next gen, but still far away from domination. I even don't think we will see a dominate like what PS/PS2 did in the previous generations.

I really expect all consoles from MS/Sony/Nintendo sell well to hold the traditional video game industry. I hate Google/Apple to step into this market or steal people's attention from the dedicated gaming devices.

Jeez people vote in the poll but don't leave comments.

Those people are called thread lurkers. I've noticed this several times.

I think in terms of marketshare it will be like this:

1. PS4 40-45%
2. Xbox3 30-35%
3. WiiU 25%

Xbox3 will be nr1 in NA alone however PS4 will be very close, not the +15m gap between PS360 but more like a 5m ish gap.

I think the days of one console dominating are over, however I also note some weaknesses in your key arguments.

Sony has momentum at the moment its true, but this late in the generation that doesnt count for much - also the PS2 had an unprecedented amount of sales, developer support and price cuts giving Sony huge momentum going in to this generation.

Finally Microsoft have always said their initial business plan to enter into the console market took a three console approach, original xbox was to gain entry, second xbox was meant to cut sonys lead and finally the third xbox was what they were going to throw most money behind to try and gain a lead (obviously the 360 is currently leading the sales race over the ps3 but I still think the ps3 will eventually over take it, but by that point the next gen will already be a few months old) - if this model still holds true and microsoft plan to throw more money at the nextbox then the 360 I think you are going to see a lot more studios like Epic developing a game exclusively for the system.

If Microsoft keeps XBOX live costing money, they will be third. Most 360 owners still don't know PSN is free and equal but they do know they are getting fed up with paying.*

That means the hardcore/mature gamers will flock to Sony to play COD and the like. Only casuals and XBOX fans will stick with the brand.

The Wii U will get its Nintendo fans and also a fair share of casuals so I see XBOX and Wii U being in the same battle as PS3 and 360 from this gen. PS4 will have roughly half the market.

PS4, it's the return of the king baby!

*Don't turn this into a Live verse PSN thread.

I hope Sony releases an awesome console because that is the console I will want the most. If it isn't good I'll have to make the tough decision and go with another but given Nintendo isn't very powerful and Microsoft has policies I don't agree with, I just don't see a good alternative.

And I'm not talking about sales wise. Screw sales. I shouldn't avoid one system because the sales are lower than another system and the fanbase proclaim doom without knowing what sustainable sales or future plans are. If a system is good it deserves my support and with that said my expectations are really high right now so we will have to see what Sony offers on the 20th.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I think Sony could dominate, so long as the system doesn't cost more than $400 (£350) come launch, and has a much, much better lineup, advertising and prospects than the Vita.

Still believe Nintendo will win this gen, though they'll be at most 5-10mil between all consoles, regardless of order.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Well I can't say anything right now because we know so little about PS4/720 but I do have a feeling Sony have learned from their mistake with the PS3.

If it's:

1) Cheaper than PS3
2) Easier to develop for (no inferior ports)
3) Has some big launch games from big franchises as well as new IPs

I'm sure it will do very well.

^ This. Its obvious how they stuffed up with the ps3 and without doubt they will avoid those same pitfalls again. I expect the console to do much better than the ps3, though not necessarily as well as the ps2.
