Quick question to you.

Would you rather have bought a slightly gimped version of Ninja Gaiden 2 that is still quite a bit better than Razor's Edge or an upgraded port based on a bad Ninja Gaiden 3 (aka Razor's Edge) ?

I would have, but i'm a Nintendo-only gamer. I buy what i like, and while i might gripe about what was done to certain games (like the favoritism shown towards the PS360 version of Sonic Unleashed), if the end product is still good enough to buy on its own, i will.

It's more about people who have options. Anyone who has a capable PC, PS3, or 360 would have ZERO reason to buy Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, and due to increasing rates of multiplatform ownership, that means that the third parties get bitten when they try to shortchange one platform (whether deliberately, as in EA's case, or not)

I, meanwhile, overlook Mass Effect 3 because i have doubts about BioWare's ability to design gameplay after Sonic Chronicles and KOTOR. Story and mythos wise, KOTOR was great, but that gameplay...

But at the same time what reason had PS3 owners to buy Mass Effect 2 when it launched a whole year later on their platform ?
Obviously they didn't care enough to buy a 360 for it or a decent PC, had no clue about the story of the first game and yet they still bought it at full price and it sold 41% of the 360 edition.

Well to summarize the launch. Third parties and Nintendo did a lot of mistakes. The interest was there but Nintendo failed to recreate a Wii Sports that drove the (casual) masses to the consoles, while third parties chose to go the cheap way and port their classics and hoped for people to buy their products as 2nd or 3rd games. But can you nowadays expect third parties to make quality exclusive games for your new platform without any kind of guarantee that it does well ?

It doesn't need to be exclusive, it just needs to not be an insult to consumers. Arkham City, NG3, Assassin's Creed 3 were the way to do it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

How can you suddenly decide there is no audience before the console is released? Don't even mention the Wii, because EA made this statement prior to the Wii U's launch, which was obviously during the Wii's lifetime.

Not before, after. Look at the sales of Fifa 13, Mass Effect 3 and Madden NFL 13. Complete flops, all of them.
But hey, at least New Super Mario Bros U reach 1 million sales. Yay for Nintendo.

Ahh, but who is to blame for their being flops, hmm? Surely not the brilliant, hardworking men and women who decided that Madden NFL 13 and FIFA 13 for Wii U would only get 6 months of development time a piece, or that Mass Effect 3 should be priced for $60 dollars, with no DLC, and release *after* the trilogy version on other platforms which were $60 for 3 games with all DLC.

Surely the people who made those decisions are perfectly rational business geniuses who gave 110%, only to be defeated by the wretched, ungrateful Nintendo fans who took these labors of love and spat on them.

Wii U owners are lucky they got the games at all. Any further delays and the games would have sold much worse and would have been even more unprofitable for EA.

So we're second class citizens. Gotcha.

You'd best stop posting now.

This is kind of statement is silly. And threatening coming from a mod.

PC doesn't get Madden at all. likely because there's just not a great market for it from data they gathered. That doesn't mean EA hates PC, they've put the best versions of Battlefield, Mirrors Edge, and Mass Effect by far.

There's lots of reasons for the subpar ports. It's not exactly easy to port because the power balance of the Wii-u is heavy on the GPU instead of CPU which is weaker. Meaning you have to take a different perspective when optimizing for the wii-u. Early PS3 ports from X360 were godaweful too.

No Madden on PC is largely becuase EA does not endorse the modding of the PC community.

Wait, you mean that the two sports titles that were announced to be using the old engine from the previous year's games while a "revolutionary" new engine was being used for the new ones on the other consoles, are selling poorly? And an 8 month late game that was superseded before launch by the announcement of a trilogy for the other consoles is struggling?

Yeah, it's definitely the fault of the Wii U consumers. EA is completely faultless in the weak sales of their games.

Mass Effect sales on WiiU are understandable but FIFA and Madden sales aren't really.

It's perfectly understandable; Wii U owners won't stoop to buying garbage like FIFA and Madden. ;)

When third parties release games on Nintendo platforms that are (A) high quality, (B) on time, and (C) well marketed, the result is a hit; Monster Hunter Tri and Goldeneye 007 on Wii show this. Late, poor quality, non-advertised games flopping is not the consumer's fault.
