Good read.

The only thing that gets me thinking is the long term support due to its hardware. The OUYA packs a Tegra 3, however, the Tegra 4 will be ready in March along with the release of the OUYA...
Being a console, fixed hardware is given, but, they will need some serious dev support to keep the console relevant for years to come. With that said, I hope yearly big advances by ARM processors don't make them treat the OUYA like a tablet with yearly revisions and therefore singling out previous buyers.

Still, I'm very interested in the micro console, mainly this OUYA.

i really don't know much about Ouya as a hardware/parts, but what i'mm hoping is for interchangeable parts that would make it upgradable for 3-5 yr.'s atleast.

I'm very interested in Ouya. Out of all the coming consoles, this is the one I'm most likely to buy - mainly do to low cost and my love for smaller, quirky titles.

However, if it's be a success or not is a big question and ultimately I might opt for a Android competitor that better allows traditional Android tablet gaming as well as console style.

If they can get developers to support it with some quality titles, especially exclusives, I'm sure even some core gamers will get it (it's only $99 after all) for those games. Casual gamers? Without Angry Birds, et al I doubt it. Semi-core? Without Madden and Call of Duty, or at least good clones, probably not.

It might become a niche market machine - for people who love indie games - and actually, because it's low cost to consumers, because it's Android based and developers can also port to any other Android based console/tablet/phone so it's low risk to them, it could probably survive on this market alone.

However, if they can get better games, and bigger dev support than what's shown here, at $99 it has the potential to steal the low end of the console market. Cheap system, cheap and plentiful (?) games.

Or, and I figure more likely, a better console/tablet hybrid Android device will come out and be wildly successful allowing people to play the best of both worlds on TV or tablet, home or on the go. Maybe not PS4 quality, maybe not even PS3 quality but still UE4 games and the best of tablet games all in one.

that's what i'm hoping for. if something else does come out, it would have to be priced cheaper then the main line entries of PS4 and 720.

I love that 80% or so of the bakers didnt understand what they will get. I mean the wishlist alone was hilarious GTA etc? In your dreams.

And especially the fact that alot of them think OPEN SOURCE? FREE GAMES! WE DONT HAVE TO PAY! loool

Have fun with your totally free GTA5 on your Ouya.

Personally I do not intend to buy this but I'm really curious on how it will perform in the market

Well, it sounds like it will have GameCube quality graphics or better, but definitely less then Wii.

Both 3DS & Vita surpass Wii even.

what?! to me it looks like most gc-games looked better than most of wii-games - not the hardware's fault but the devs... and if 3ds is better than ouya? Look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsnaZwCxN24 This runs on a Nexus 7 which has the same hardware as Ouya...

3DS isn't close to Tegra 3. Games like Need for Speed Most Wanted, Shadow gun and Dead Trigger have graphics much better than 3DS games, and they are even running in HD. And there is other detail: not all Tegra 3 SoCs are equal. The Nexus 7 uses the less powerful variant with a lower clock GPU.

Now, Vita surpass Tegra 3 with ease and probably have the most powerful mobile GPU (I don't know about how it will compare with Tegra 4, but we'll have to wait the first devices. NVidia always exaggerates the performance of their Tegras before launch).

Here are some examples of what the Tegra 3 is capable of:

Oh, I will have my fair share of free games. All Google Play games and all NES - GBA games :D

The "late PS2 quality" comment made by the developer is likely in regards to the general look of the games models & textures, but the Ouya has limited shaders like the 3DS, something the PS2 & Wii don't support on the hardware level. The Ouya will also likely have the ability to output in HD perhaps even with anti aliasing.

EDIT: Long story short it will look better then PS2/Wii.  Even the $35 RasbarryPie (sp?) micro computer can run Quake Arena in HD with anti aliasing at a good framerate.  It's getting kind of goofy the amount of performance you can get out of cheep hardware now days.

thanks for the feed back and incite. so what are your interest with Ouya, if you have any.

Probably not buying one myself, but it looks like it could be an interesting avenue for indie devlopers who want to dream big.

hmmmm ok

Its Tegra 3 based. I have a Tegra 3 Nexus 7... The graphics are far in excess of PS2 or Wii quality. Its probably closer to earlier HD games from 2006 or 2007. Shadowgun would be a good example, because its optimized for Tegra, AFAIK.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
