Forums - Gaming Discussion - CD Projekt Red Give First Glimpse of Next-Gen RPG Graphics

CD Projekt Red keep popping up in the gaming news lately, be it due to the release of their debut Cyberpunk 2077 trailer, or the fact that we're just a few days away from the official announcement of The Witcher 3. But that's not all. The studio have given us the first glimpse of what the next generation of RPGs could look like, releasing the following image:

As the watermark on the screenshot states, this is an image of CD Projekt Red's latest in-house engine in action, the REDengine 3. CD Projekt RED claim the engine will put RPGs on par with "top-shelf shooters" in terms of gameplay presentation:

"With the REDengine 3 we combine the positive aspects of both approaches for the first time, creating an open environment with a complex, multi-thread story. Together with believable characters, a captivating tale and a world where players can roam freely without loading times, we will be able to move gaming to a new level with a realistic feel and full player immersion. When working on our previous titles, I didn’t dream that we would achieve something like this."

honestly that pic looks awesome, if thats the standered for next gen games then ill be pretty happy, what do you guys think?

Sweet (TM).

Like to wait to see it in motion, but based on Witcher 1 and 2 I'm sure it's not a bluff.

Wow, this doesn't look any better than what we've seen in previous years...

Crysis 1 looks better than this.

I thought we were talking about Next Gen graphics, as in graphics we haven't seen before. Anyways, I assumed this statement included PC's as well and I consider High End PC's to be part of that.

Crysis 1 has a massive sand box world and looks better than this. And it runs perfectly on budget graphics cards today.

@Baron

Have you ever played a Witcher game?

If you have and I mean on the max settings you would know that this game if even a 1% improvement on the Witcher 2 it will be mind blowing in terms of graphics.

We already got the first glimpse with "X" on Wii U. This would be the second, and to be honest, not as impressive so far. I'm sure it will in time though, as i enjoyed the Witcher 2.

we havent seen this on consoles, generations are for consoles not pc. and no crysis 1 does not look better than this, look at the ground, its clear that the bump/normal maping res is high, higher than anything any console at the moment can push, and this is still work in progress.

Fuck next gen open world RPGS (such as the Elder Scrolls) will be amazing.
