Forums - Politics Discussion - Explain why racism is wrong...

I am asking people here to do some thinking, and come up with reasons why they see something in modern society, that is universally agreed is wrong, and explain why.  In the other thread about top conservatives backing racism, it was then rush to say "Well liberals are racist to (what about the NAACP?)".

Can you explain why racism is wrong?  What core set of values and beliefs do you have to argue that individuals of certain races aren't superior or that race shouldn't be a criterion for people uniting for mutual support?  Again, the question is why.  This thread isn't a case to argue that racism is ok, but to see if anyone can have sound reasns for thinking it is.

Why is it even a question?

Racism is wrong because it's devaluing of a race, basically. You call one race "Uglier","Less Educated", or "Super loud and annoying." That's devaluing a race. You are putting them down to values that they don't all fall under.
It's also plain rude.

It's wrong because

everybody is equal, its just that simple

Everyone is not equal. I think that's the wrong way to put it. (But I know what you are getting at.)

ok let it put it this way, everybody is born equal its the actions of a person that decides what he/she that detrmine his/her "worth"

Edit : actually the idea of somebody being "above" another disgusts me, there is no difference between me and you and nobody is worth more than anyone else. im your equal, yes. i should have the same rights as you and so should everybody else, the only time when somebody shouldnt have those rights is when he/she does something that isnt her/his right, like rape, murder, theft etc etc. i only used worth in my first post because i didnt know what word to use

Because its stupid and ignorant for one. Why stop at race? Why not claim superiority for people who have one certain color of hair? Or bushy eye brows? Or a certain height? Imagine you lived in a society that valued that and were denied your rights or discriminated against because of that?

People have more in common than they are different unless you're going to sit there and claim to bleed blue blood and breathe nitrogen.

Because only ignorant people are racist.

Think how you'd feel if everyone in your town picked a characteristic of yours and started verbally abusing you and spitting at your feet because of it, and you have your answer.

Erm, people aren't born equal either.

Let's put this way; everyone is different. It doesn't mean everyone who is different is bad.
