Forums - Sony Discussion - PS Plus Will Carry Over To The PS4, "Here To Stay"

This is kind of obvious, but if you end up buying a 12 month PS Plus subscription, you also get 3 months free, so the question now is that this will overlap with next generation where Sony’s PS3 successor will be most likely be released.

Naturally, a small doubt exists whether the service will carry over to the next gen or not. On the recent PS Blog post’s comments section, a fan asked, “Any word on whether we should have any concern about PS+ carrying over to the next gen ? If I renew now and get the 3 extra months, thats 15 months of Plus goodness … but will it be used next gen?”

To this, Morgan Haro, PSN community manager, replied: “PS Plus is here to stay, so you can take advantage of the offer with confidence.”

So there you go, the service will be offered by Sony next gen as well.

I'm a day one Plus users... happy for everything I played because this service.

Great news. Sony will hear no complaints from me giving them my $50 a year.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Why not? it makes them a lot of money and it's been a success so far. it would be stupid to not carry it over to PS4.

What will Sony offer to Plus subscribers on PS4 early days, if there is no backwards compatibility ?

Everytime I think about this. I have no doubts PS4 will feature BC.

Unsure how this would work at first. Due to a small software library as a new console it will be interesting to see what they offer on the ps4

Ynwa.

Well clearly PS+ will carry over to the PS4 but that headline is misleading and so is his statement. He could simply be referring to the fact that PS+ would continue on for the duration of the PS3s lifecycle, which will probably be at least 12 years. With a potential shortage of content for PS+ on PS4 (unless BC is made available at launch) I can see there being a slight delay until a decent portfolio of content has been gathered. I don't think the lack of PS+ would effect the sales of the PS4 initially anyway because it's always the stalwart followers that flock to buy the new console for the first few months.
