Netflix Developing Live-Action Zelda Series

“The Legend of Zelda,” one of the most popular videogame series of all time, is in the works as a television show at Netflix.

The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on “Zelda,” about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter. As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as “Game of Thrones” for a family audience, this person said.

The “Zelda” games have traditionally included swords and sorcery, like “Game of Thrones” or “Lord of the Rings,” but typically with a more light-hearted, kid-friendly tone.

Netflix is said to be working closely with Nintendo, the Japanese game developer that has made about 20 “The Legend of Zelda” games since the original, which was released in the U.S. in 1987.

Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has allowed few adaptations over the years. An animated “Legend of Zelda” series ran for just one season in 1989. A 1993 movie based on Nintendo’s “Super Mario Bros.” was an infamous bomb.

As it is still seeking a writer to work on the series, Netflix has a long road to travel before a “Legend of Zelda” series actually becomes a reality. It’s also possible that Netflix or Nintendo will kill the project before it gets off the ground.

A Netflix spokeswoman declined to comment. A Nintendo spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I wonder if this is just a rumour or not... And I don't know if I want it to be true or not ^^

Aonuma Announces Majora's Mask 3D Art Academy Contest on Miiverse

"Hello, this is Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda games.

On Feb. 7, The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, Master Quest will be in Tokyo to perform a concert celebrating the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D! We've also recently created an official The Legend of Zelda Japanese Twitter account (@ZeldaOfficialJP)! To celebrate these events, we're having a drawing contest in this community!

The theme for this contest is...free-style! Draw anything based on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask!

Guidelines:

• Pictures must be drawn using Art Academy: SketchPad, which is available for purchase in Nintendo eShop.
• Pictures must be The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask themed.
• Entries are limited to one original work per person.
• Comment on this post to submit your entry.

Remember, this is a worldwide event so please avoid using writing in your pictures.

The submission period will end on March 01, 2015 or when the number of comments reaches 1000, whichever comes first. I'll also announce drawings I like along with my comments as I come across them on The Legend of Zelda Japanese Twitter account, and later on The Legend of Zelda Facebook page and on Nintendo's American and European Twitter accounts (@NintendoAmerica and @NintendoEurope).

If you don't have Art Academy: SketchPad, we'd still love for you to participate by giving your drawings you like a Yeah!

I'll make my choices based on gut feeling! It's not only about artistic skill but creative ideas, so even if you're not a painting expert, don't be shy and send in your drawings. I'm looking forward to seeing your works!

Note: If you submit a drawing as a comment to this post, you grant Nintendo the royalty-free right to publish your drawing online and offline.

Your drawing must be an original work of your own creation. You may include Nintendo logos, brand names and products in your drawing. There should not be any products, logos or brands belonging to other companies included."

Since you are in charge of Zelda, I'd appreciate it if you made a fitting banner for The Official Thread to please Smeags.

I'll add the link to the front page. And I'll see what I can whip up for the banner.

Good luck with the thread!

Three days left until Majora's Mask 3D!
