Expected big drops for the PS360, Vita is flailing about like a drowning crash test dummy with CP, Wii joins the PSP's hallowed sales-shelf and the Wii U continues to dive.
The Wii U though, it really is the elephant in the room; people were somewhat careful in their predictions but still optimistic, there was talk about the "best launch line-up a console has ever had", the gamepad being genius, promises of 3rd party exclusives, online functions and Mii-verse being selling points, NSMB U to help drive sales and a release in the best time of year, the fact that it beat the 360's and PS3's launches were also sure signs it was headed for glory.
I don't think anyone, hand over heart can claim that the Wii U is still "doing very well", these numbers are cause for worry. Like I've said in the past two-three weeks; not spelling doom but could be the forerunner for something eerily similar, selling about 45% of the nearest competitor in its 8th year and about 11k above the one console that has been ruled completely dead by consensus is not good news for anyone, especially when Nintendo seem almost oblivious to the situation on the whole.
One thing is for sure; this year's summer numbers will be mind numbingly boring for all of us...
I still expect announcement of new xbox and playstation sometime late Q1 or in Q2, this will drive the proverbial final nail in the 7th generation's coffin towards the fall season. Here's hoping for a new console cycle with all three major manufacturers on the market as soon as possible, I hate the end of a generation.
