Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Next gen xbox live

Around the Network

With the next xbox launching later this year(probably) I got to thinking about xbox live and how it will work between the 2 consoles. The next xbox(720 or what ever its ging to be called) will probably have a new looking dashboard to go along with its new features but what I was wondering was.
1) Will we be able to chat with people on the 360 if we have the next xbox.
2) Will we be able to play online with people that have the same game even though its on the 360 e.g call of duty.
3) Will all our donlaods like movies games music we bought carry over to the next xbox.
4) MS in the past have updated our dashboard every year. Will there be 2 versions of the update one for the 360 and one for the next xbox or will they just focus on the next xbox.
What do you guys think

Plus do you guys think that both xbox live and psn be a great place to advertise there consoles. They could really go in to detail about there new features games etc and get people who already own there consoles super excited about upgrading to a new console. Almost do what nintendo are doing with there nintendo direct stuff.

P.s. sorry my first post had no text for some reason when I submited it my text vanished lol.

I think cross chat will be available through both platforms. I can see re-downloading all XBLA and Indie game titles on the 720 but whether they charge a fee for doing such? I'm not sure.

Years of Gold/MS points will stay the same.

I don't see them dropping the cost of XBox Live because so many people are currently paying or it. I can see more deals, say maybe $40 a year but in general the price will stay at $60 a year.

It's just that simple.

Well when the 360 launched we were able to play Halo 2 and Crimson Skies with people who still had an Xbox. I'm sure it will be similar.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I think it will be exactly the same XBL, using the same servers and services to ensure the cross compatability. I think the multiplatform play between same games on the different consoles might work if implemented by the developer... would be cool to see MS allow it, though I almost doubt it since it would keep some people from wanting to upgrade to the latest console.

1) Yes.
2) Yes, though some features and games may not be available to people on older platforms.
3) Yes.  Movies and music are universal.  XBLA, On-Demand, and XNA-based Indie Games will likely require a minor (small) software patch downloaded prior to playing.
4.  Yes, but eventually Microsoft will deprecate support for the Xbox 360, moving solely to supporting the next Xbox.

I imagine Microsoft will feature lots of info regarding the next Xbox on XBLA.  I'd be surprised if Sony doesn't as well for the next PlayStation console.
