Forums - Gaming Discussion - Those who bought DMC at launch: Why?

I'm sorry, man, but seriously, what kind of question is that? Why did anyone buy God of War 3 or Darksiders or Heavenly Sword or Dante's Inferno? If we've reached the point where multiplayer is a must for a day one purchase/full price game, then count me out.

Most of us grew up playing single player games which were significantly shorter than DMC. I played Castlevania on nes a year ago and managed to beat it in like 2 hours. Were we getting ripped off all along?

LOL I just read something like "I didn't like the game...I've played it for about 1000 hours because of the leaderboards..." Well that's...I don't wanna get banned again...

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

I bought almost every castlevania and most megaman games at launch, those were just a few hours long with the exception of the 3D castlevania games.

It's all about replay and action packed content in those few hours you play. I'm sure fans of Bioshock will feel the same way (for the record I don't know of anyone who bought Bioshock 2 for It's multiplayer).

It's just that simple.

IGN lured me into buying it at launch with all their spamming. And i liked it even though i played it for 30 minutes.

Unless it is a must-have game that must be played instantly upon purchase, I don't see why anyone would buy games at $60 anymore.

This is the mistake I used to make when I first got the ps3 when it launched.  I payed full price for a lot of games that I didn't really need but wanted them and now I only pay full price on launch for games that I know I am truly gonna like and want and will replay it 2-3 times to be a completionist.

I bought DmC on launch day and I have not regretted it. It really shouldn't concern anybody what someone else wants to buy. I also don't like when some people can't get over the fact that someone likes a game that they don't. Everyone has a right to their opinion as long as it's not presented as fact instead.

YES THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN TRYING TO SAY. Holy Jesus lol. Maybe I should have cleared it up for everyone but that's exactly what I'm trying to say of waiting until the price goes down. Dmc seems like a superb game based on the demo I played, reviews, and videos I've seen but I don't think it's worth $60 for the average gamer; considering they are unlikely to replay through it a bunch of times. They are always exeptions however, as with anything, but for the most part it's a linear story that doesn't offer much in the realm of choices through playing it.

Totally agree with the different tastes part you brought up. Some people preview that solid 12 hour consistant experience compared to a 50 hour large RPG like game with boorfests in the middle of it.

The average gamer is not buying a game at full price, furthermore the average gamer owns less than 10 games for one of the now last gen consoles and I bet that at least 90% of these owners in this forum have more than 10 PS3, 360 or Wii games.
So you're clearly asking the wrong crowd here.

Could be that people bought the game because....they liked the game.

That's preposterous.

How you could even come up with such an unrealistic idea is beyond me.

I buy most games at launch and have been doing so since I started working. Any game i'm on the fence for, or interests me but I'm currently not in the mood for I wait until it drops in price, though I like a lot of different genres and if I'm a fan of the series that almost makes the game an instant day 1 purchase. My reasoning:

-I read a lot of articles on games that are new IP's and usually know before release date whether or not it'll be worth the day 1 purchase

-If I like or will like a game why not support it and the developer by buying it new. Look at Valkyria Chronicles. I bought that day one cause I knew I'd like it. A lot of people waited to pick it up used or when it dropped to $20 and because of the low sales on PS3, SEGA made VC2 & 3 on PSP. Then people complained about them not making the sequels on PS3 >_
