Forums - Gaming Discussion - Those who bought DMC at launch: Why?

@ STAGE

Good for you pre-ordering GOW:A. I'm not saying that it's wrong to buy these shorter games. I'm just saying with the high $60 launch price why they wouldn't wait until a lower price.

Depends on who you're talking to. With me you're talking to a hack n slash fan who knows how to find the gameplay hours out of hack n slash titles like time attacks, survival and other unorthodox challenges. Truthfully, I dont go looking for these things, they are already in the game and they satisfy my thirst for a challenge. The general public tend to ignore all the challenges and focus only on the story and then throw the game away and this is why the games are never mastered. I dont look to play the game just for the story but to break down the gameplay mechanics and master it. Anyway, outside of the God of War franchise hack n slash sales are pretty slim. DmC has more than enough gameplay to keep me busy for 35+ hours (two playthroughs + Secret Missions+ Vergil DLC and Bloody Palace Missions) and the. I've seen Ninja Theory's games since the first and I think they show signs of a great story based action/adventure company next gen. They are learning and growing with every game and sooner or later they will nail it. This is my first time buying a Ninja Theory game first day.

35+ hours ehh? Speaks to the completionist in you :)

Because I thought I would like the game (which I did indeed) and because the quality and value seems ok to me for the full price.

And of course, because I have money.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

I edited my post, but yes hack n slash games have more than people think. God of War 3 was realistically playable twice with arena challanges. Easy 17-21 hours of gameplay. DMC will be much longer with all the DLC.

Again, I'm not saying games have to include multiplayer. On the contrary; I can't stand when developers tack on multiplayer in games that have no business in the online market *cough Tomb Raider/Dead Space 3 cough*. But still, you have to look at the price for such little time gaming. Why does any person spend $60 at launch for Dmc? They obviously don't know how much the game will last. You can wait a couple weeks and get it on Amazon for $20 cheaper usually. All I'm saying is I don't understand why you'd essentially trade $60 for a 12 hour playthrough of Dmc with little replayability, and not sell back the game. It doesn't seem logical to me.

It does look like a great game though, I'm not knocking the actual game, just games with similar play times and low replayability. As for Guild Wars 2, I can't run it on my horrible Laptop nor am I very successful with large MMO's after Runescape lolol.

Different people, diffrent tastes. Some play 2 hours a day and might need a week or two to beat DMC. That's more than enough gameplay for them. The same people might hate long games and not play ninokuni, because they don't have that much time and it would require months of their gameplay. I, for example, never managed to beat Eternal Sonata, an absolutely superb game, because it was too long for me. Same with persona 4. I'm not playing it any time soon, as i only have a few hours a week to game and it's gonna affect my studying time.

Number of hours simply doesn't matter to some people. It's like a quality vs quantity argument. I still don't see how getting say Ninokuni or Uncharted 1 or 2 on launch day is any better than buying DMC. Now, if you were arguing why buy games at launch instead of waiting a few weeks for massive price cuts, I'd totally agree with you (though there are exceptions. e.g. all your friends buying COD day one, getting a niche title early on before the online community is non existent etc).

I agree,I don't have time to play a game 12 hours straight and beat it in one day. I just play a game a couple hours here and there. I personally don't mind how long a game is.

1. I make A LOT of money

2. I buy every big game at launch for every system

3. I knew it would be a fantastic action hack and slash, and boy does it deliver

Because it looked like fun, and so far I'm really enjoying it. I take my time with games. It'll last me way longer than most. Plus, it does have unlockables, incentives to get better, and replayability.

because the steam key cost only 9 euro, thats why :D

Personally, if the game is fun and has a lot of replay value then I think it is okay to make a $60 purchase. I bought the first DMC game at launch and I beat it in 5 or 6 hours my first try (shorter on speed runs). But, I beat that game over 100 times on the PS2, so to me it was well worth the full price of admission. If DmC has that sort of replay value then I think that's fine. But I will admit, based on what I read and saw, I would faster part with $60 to play a game like Ni No Kuni than DmC. That has more to do with the experience I think I can get from the game and the mileage (but that's subjective). I've played long crap games and short gems, but Ni No seems to be the kind of game you can spend hours with while extracting a lot of goodness during playtime (but again, subjective).

EDIT: As for the other part of your post, I don't sell my games - period. I stick with what ever I buy, including hidden gems like Duke Nukem. I'm more interested in building up my collection. I'm not sure if I'll get the kind of mileage from DmC as I did with the first game, so I don't see myself spending 60 on it. I only see myself doing that (paying full price) for a few games this year, namely Ni No Kuni, Sly: TiT, GOW:A, The Last of Us, and maybe Beyond: 2 Souls. DmC, MGR:R, Injustice and a few others are on my waiting list. I'll get them when they are cheaper.
