Super mario allstars is a port of an SNES remake of the Super Mario Bros games on NES. As for Super Paper Mario, can it be really considerate as a platformer game ?

That is what it says at vgchartz. A platformer, I don't know anything about the game.

It's a RPG....maybe action RPG is a better term.

Those stats are heavily skewed.

You can't just stick Mario in a cart and claim it to be a different franchise. Also, you're missing quite a few games from the Nintendo list, I'm not a huge Nintendo gamer and even I can see some obvious emissions like Mario Party and Paper Mario. Factor in handhelds and that list is going to look VERY different.

The number of games isn't even the problem either, most of the IPs you listed on the Wii are at least a decade old, whereas the ones in the Sony and Microsoft section are fresh IPs.

Mario Kart IS a differnet franchise, it's a completly different game.   It is, how ever, the same IP.

That's true actually, my bad.

That's funny. You know what Pikmin was based off? :D

I have never been less surprised in my life.

I'd also like to throw out here that I'm not really talking about sequels.  Games that continue a story or an adventure set in the same world don't really bother me--at least, until there is a significant drop in quality and you get that "what next?" kind of feel.  I'll be fine with another God of War, Halo, or Mario Galaxy.  Series like Forza or Gran Turismo are also exempt, as long as they keep moving forward.  It's when the characters are torn away from their game worlds and pasted all over everything else for the sole purpose of branding, that's what bugs me.

With Nintendo, you get the feeling that they look at the calendar and say, "we need another Mario game".  I don't really like that.  It's kind of the same with Zelda, where you get the idea that they're constantly sorting through unrelated ideas for something they can transform into a Zelda title.  It seems really cynical to me.

That's an interesting take. I actually feel the opposite. I feel overexposed to direct sequels that drag a story along for four or five games. Whereas I'm fine with series like Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, etc., which recycle a formula but don't tell the same story arc each time. There are exceptions, of course -- Metroid and Halo come to mind -- but generally I think two or three games is enough to tell a story.

"Super Paper Mario is a platformer with role-playing video game elements."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Paper_Mario

Super Paper Mario can be considered as an hybrid game between platformer game and RPG, it is not completely the same thing...

Nintendo tends to create ideas and then they see what IPs fit with the idea and since it is hard for new IPs to sell well they just use one of their well known IPs to sell it which is better as it will sell millions plus add a fresh coat of "new" in that IP.

but of course every now and then they do bring new IPs like Pikmin, Wario, Wii something and a couple of other games developed by second parties. I honestly don't want to constantly buy new IPs that I don't feel any "love" for. I want Nintendo consoles for Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, DK, MK and so on and whenever there are new IPs from Nintendo I might give them a try to

those who complain probably don't like their IPs anymore or have never loved them

Why?
Hipocricy. That's why.

Many of the people that say Nintendo is milking their franchises are expecting the 4th Uncharted game or the yearly Halo game.
Supposedly graphics doesn't matter and now the Monolith games is "above" every other console game. Amazing grafxs!
Remember when Vita will likely destroy 3DS in sales? Well, now the only thing that matters is how much fun you have with it.

And we can continue...

Cherry picked arugument/blindingly obvious/@OP.

Ignored parallel hand held consoles, use of mario since the birth of time, very little improvement in graphics incrementally between each new game, no genuinely new formula, typical gimmicks applied.

If you are talking about 2D Mario, that only really applies to the NEW series, which I will agree is milked but atleast held to 1 iteration per platform.  I disagree about 3D Mario.

I'd go with that, I'm not complaining or anything - thoroughly enjoy all things Mario, milked or otherwise.

Way too much Mario, even I'm getting tired of him

They are all very different games in terms of gameplay, but in terms of setting, and characters, they all have a lot in common. It's kinda annoying. IMO, they should of had 2D Mario, & 3D Mario and that's it. Putting Mario in everything certainly guarantees at least some success but it is a bit obsessive.

Mario Kart sells extremely well so there is no turning back now but IMO they should have just kept F-Zero as their racing game instead of abandoning it. I am very happy that Animal Crossing & Pikmin are different because they could of easily been Mario Life and 100 Mario's.

They seem to be getting a bit better though, hopefully Mario Party and the Mario Sports games are officially over in favor of Mii's. That might just be wishful thinking...

I agree. Although they really need to make a new Mario Smah Football for WiiU. You can't replace that masterpiece with Miis

I like it when Nintendo wheel out the franchises that are absent for long periods, ie Kid Icarus uprising is superb and a new IP in itself. I hope we get more of F Zero. Wave Race, 1080, etc, im sure those games would look and play great on WiiU.
