The Nintendo UK Twitter account specifically stated that new games will be revealed.

NoA have announced their broadcast for 9am EST/6am PST. There will also be a Japanese Direct at 11pm Japan time, which means that it will be broadcasted simultaneously around the globe. 2pm UK time is 3pm CET for continental European fans.

As a little indicator of what we should expect, Iwata has said... "This time, the plan is a bit different from a regular Direct, in that I'll be talking about what kind of Wii U titles and services Nintendo is developing."

It's over! Here's a summary of announcements:

System updates to improve Wii U performance coming in the Spring and Summer - Wii U VC and Miiverse Smartphone App will launch after the first update.
Wii VC purchased games can be updated to be used on Wii U VC for a small fee.
Additional details (some brief) for announced games including Lego City, Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.
Smash Bros, 3D Mario and Mario Kart were mentioned and will be fully unveiled at this years E3 conference.
Wii U Party coming in the Summer.
New 2D game starring Yoshi in development from the team who created Kirby's Epic Yarn.
Zelda Wii U in development although it is some way from being shown, but in the meantime, Wind Waker HD releasing this Autumn!
New Monolith game was shown.
Fire Emblem/Shin Megami Tensai crossover announced.

I literally just grinned for like thirty seconds after reading this and couldn't stop lol.  Can't wait!

Also, this is happening sooner than I thought.  Last full Nintendo Direct was December 3rd, so I thought we wouldn't get another until mid-February. 

New game announcements! :D That's exactly what I need, something to be hyped for besides Bayonetta 2.
It would definitely help the console's sales and image to have some big games announced for it, at the moment there isn't a whole lot in the tubes that we know about.

Here's hoping we find out what Retro is making!

Show us the damn Virtual Console and give a date for it, it's the only service I give a crap about.

And take the lid off the Monolith RPG and Bayonetta 2, it would at least create a little buzz for the platform.
