Forums - Gaming Discussion - The official Michael Pachter Comedy Show Thread!

Let's talk (and laugh) about all the stupid comments this well known humorist says and get paid for and how his comments always turn out to be proven completely wrong by facts.

I start:

- Pachter bet few weeks ago that Sony will launch the PS4 before the next box and today Hirai pretty much confirms that it probably won't happen.LOL.

- Pachter told us that the WiiU will be sold out for months after its launch. LOL.

- People say that it is not his job to make predictions... Ok, now explain me how you are supposed to make money on the stock market if you always bet on the wrong company?

- Pachter says that he doesn't like Nintendo from an investor point of view. But what gaming company has made more money and had such a big increase in their stocks that Nintendo during the DS/Wii era?

- For Pachter the Wii HD was what Nintendo should have made few years ago. PS3 + Move was the closest thing we had from a Wii HD and the peripheral bombed hard.

- Patcher said that Nintendo will regret to not launch the 3DS at a higher price than 250$. Sure.

Here are my favorites:

From 2007:
"We expect the dominant console at the end of the next cycle to be Sony PlayStation 3, primarily due to our assessment that Sony will win the high definition DVD format war. Ultimately, we see Sony winning the console war with 36% of the market, with Nintendo capturing second place at 34% and Microsoft finishing third at 30%."

From 2005:
"I don't think there are four million people in the world who really want to play online games every month. World of Warcraft is such an exception. I frankly think it's the buzz factor, and eventually it will come back to the mean, maybe a million subscribers. It may continue to grow in China, but not in Europe or the U.S. We don't need the imaginary outlet to feel a sense of accomplishment here. It just doesn't work in the U.S. It just doesn't make any sense."

I've posted these on the site before, but they deserve repeating :)

I liked that when he made those predictions about PS4, he automatically gained credibility in the eyes of some PS fans :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

"I have long been baffled as to why RTS games don’t work on consoles. I think it is partly because of the nature of the gameplay, it’s single-player and it’s turn-based."

It seems like he swears by Online Interaction now!

Pachter is not paid to give the public free investment advice. I like the idea he's paid to influence the news cycle to make stocks move. He's a smart guy and knows when he's saying wrong or outrageous things.

I guess it is so "out there" I should have put  alink to the article, from about three years back.

I actually question this part, if stocks move too his advice the'd be a alot of broke stock holders and companies about about but then again we are in a recession.
