I was thinking of how the scenario would have been different if Nintendo would have released the Wii U in holiday 2010. We know how 2010 was one of the best years for the Wii in terms of software with some major games being released. 2011 was also a good year with great software such as Skyward Sword and Xenoblade, but the sales of the console had really started to die out then.
Wouldn't it have been much better if Nintendo released the Wii U in the fall of 2010 (or even 2011 at the latest) with Skyward Sword on it? A HD Zelda along with some of the RPGs like Xenoblade and Mario would have really boosted the system above and beyond what was on the market at the time. Plus with 2 years in the market by now it would have had a much larger install base than what the other next gen consoles will have. In a sense both Sony and MS "upgraded" their consoles with motion controls in 2010 to extend the consoles' life cycles, while Nintendo did nothing.
I feel that because of Nintendo's late release of the Wii U, much of the excitement for it has diminished because there are not many games to go with it and in general the other next gen systems from MS/Sony seem to hold a lot more potential. So far the Wii U hasn't really done much that the PS3/360 can't do, but 2 years earlier this may not have been the case.
So what are your views on the matter?
