Forums - Music Discussion - To those who buy music: Why?

First, I don't listen to that kind of music you mention. I listen to music that I feel that it's worth it, that has been put a lot of effort on it, and that fills certain void in my life.

Second, as a musician myself, I understand that creating a song, not to mention a complete awesome album or DVD or live show is no easy task.

Third, music is not an essential need. Just as games. It's a luxury that should be paid for. Not paying for it is not justified.

Music is one medium where I feel dishonest if I pirate it. Some of these bands I really like, and they have close to no money. 15 bucks isn't going to kill me.

I think you either are the type of person to do those things or you aren't. My fucking brother in law does shit like that all the time. Dude doesn't pay for cable, buys crazy pirated movies, writes companies and complains about shit to try to score free stuff from them, he's weak like that. It's not like he's broke either, he has dough but he's always scheming to try to get over on someone. All that shit is just immature and grimey to me and I just don't get it. If I want something, I pay for it, straight up.

Music above all other forms of entertainment has the most positive impact on my moods. The artists that can do that for me deserve my money in exchange for what they give me, it's a fair trade.

I understand that a lot of young people are broke and want to enjoy some of these simple luxuries but doing the right thing usually has more benefits in the long run.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

I tend to download quite a lot, but the favourite artists that I do enjoy occasionally I end up purchasing the albums for, I mean half of the stuff I've pirated before I've now brought physical copies for. I seem to prefer them to the digital copies and do feel kind of guilty for freeloading.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Why do I buy CDs?

1. Downloading pirated music is stealing.

2. Digital download music often has stupid copy protection.

3. I prefer the stuff I won to actually exist. CDs look nice on a shelf just like DVDs, books and games plus it's easy to rip them and put the music on anything I want.

99.9% of the music I listen to on a daily basis comes from either YouTube or from downloading. I only by music from the bands I really love and support (mostly metal bands)... and when I do buy their albums, I buy the actual, physical CD. I don't spend $10 on mp3s that I can just download for free.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I like to buy and collection the CDs of my favorite artists. I don't like to download music.

Yeah dude , I just don't get why people buy music. I mean I just stole a gold-diamond necklace from my Friends rich ass parents! It's okay though because They're rich as heck, they don't need anymore money and if they wanted the necklace back they could just buy another one! Jeeze...

i only buy music if its my favourite bands... i only download music if i only like 1 song in that band... if i like all their songs, i think its worth it buying their albums, they deserve my money.

plus you need to support the music industry, the people that buy the artists music is what drives this industry, if everyone downloads music illegally, the industry will be fucked.
