Forums - Sony Discussion - Kotaku Rumor: MH4 is Vita bound

I'm doubtful ...

Nintendo went to the effort to "get" Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii and 3DS, there is little reason to favour the PS-Vita over another platform on sales so Sony would (probably) have to pay for the title, and I'm doubtful that Sony's management would start money-hatting games with their current financial position.

I think money is the biggest little reason someone can give a company.  And Kaz has constantly said that gaming is back on their focus, why would they not money hat?

Mh4 will stay 3ds exclusive. But surely down the way we can imagine a mh4g hit vita.

Won't be the first time crapcom betray nintendo.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

Yeah, wouldn't bet on this.

If Sony moneyhatted Capcom for a Vita version, Nintendo would just moneyhat them even harder to keep it exclusive to 3DS. Both sides know how important this game is.

I suppose if it does come to Vita, those Nintendo fans who said that Nintendo never moneyhat anything can be happy in knowing they were right.

If it came true though, good. Even though people say there's no point/money to be made in a Vita version, I think you're all underestimating Monster Hunter. Yes, it wouldn't sell anywhere close to what the 3DS version would sell. But it would shift a lot of Vitas and it would easily be the highest selling Vita game in Japan.  Wouldn't be surprised if it sold at least a million.  I'm sure there would be plenty of money to be had from it then.

Seems unlikely.

But it would make zero different outside of Japan. The problems of the Vita arent only due to no monster hunter,

It may have indeed no impact outside of Japan, but I'm not sure if you are suggesting that they shoudn't try and do targeted improvements to Vita's sales? Japan is indeed looking like a handheld market and a significant one, and why wouldnt you get a game that is very popular over there onto the device... I am sure they are probably not just thinking that one thing will help them out to get better sales, but if you arn't going to try the obvious, might as well give up.

Because they're $146 Billion in debt, are losing $5 Billion per year, there credit rating is junk, and the company has to turn around its finances within a couple years because they're heading for bankruptcy. In there current state, I expect management's philosophy on spending money on anything is "If it is not essential to the survival of the company don't spend any money" ...

When companies start money-hatting they rarely stop at paying for one game from one company, and I think it is highly unlikely that Sony would see spending hundreds of millions of dollars buying franchises for the PS-Vita as being essential to the survival of the company.

Capcom can do with the game whatever they want. It's not a Nintendo game, it's a third party game published on 3DS.

Anyway, some of you believe it will be the savior of the PSV and will sold millions. Fact is that one console will have MH4, DQVII and Pokemon. The other, only MH4. Alone won't make much difference, and it will need more games to continue the push that could get from the version.

Btw, if (IF) this is real, when could be the right time to announce?

Kotaku click bait and y'all are falling head over heels for it.

Let's say MH4 does make it over to Vita. It won't mean much UNLESS it's exclusive. If it's on 3DS too, then Vita won't gain any ground.

Hahahaha

Not true; COD3, Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and World at War all sold over a million on Wii. Even MW3 sold over 500k.

lol I was talking about Japan only... I can't see a MH4 release on Vita outside Japan.

I was not sure which of your post quote, but this one seems fine...

If MH4 for Vita will not release outside of Japan it makes even less sense to create a version for it, it means that all the sales have to come from that country, which currently has around 1 million Vitas on players hands, even if the game pushes many units (lets say 500k and that would be very good), the most optimistic attach rate for that game is 25% of the total units of the console, sooo it will sell at most 375k and not any more in any other region.

Now if it was just a straight port (nothing improved except for the resolution) it makes financial sense since the porting will cost very little maybe around 1 - 2 millions (recompilation, tunning and adjustment to sony network, trophies and that kind of stuff), but players may feel is not worth it if there are no improvements at all, so it is possible that is not a good investment for Capcom, the solution is to get Sony to pay for the porting and we are not sure if they are willing to do it or if Nintendo already has some kind of deal to promote and publish the game outside of Japan in exchange of the exclusivity.

I doubt they would bother bringing it to Vita, and if they did it won't move a lot of units since it will already be on 3DS. It was big on PSP because it WASN'T on DS. Not unlike the WiiU, Vita needs good exclusive content. Having the same content is nice, but not great when you are more expensive.

So the logic that many Nintendo fans were using for the Wii back in the hey day about games like COD being ported and Activition not leaving money on the table does not apply for Sony consoles? Why should the number of units matter if its pure profit for capcom because the 3DS version will sell well?

I'm not sure what logic Nintendo fans were using and I don't know if it's right or not.  I'm just saying I doubt they would port it and if they did it's not a big deal one way or the other.  Just like COD, Batman and AC3 are not a big deal for WiiU.  They are nice, and if you have a WiiU it's nice to be able to play those games. But they are available on cheaper systems.  And the sales may cover the cost of porting, but from the publishers perspective I still don't know if it's worth it since a lot of consumers would have bought it on another system if it wasn't on WiiU.

PSV has a userbase of 1 million in Japan.  Monster Hunter is very popular and consumers will buy a system to play it. Capcom can make it for the 10 million and rapidly growing 3DS base.  Making a copy for Vita would probably just mean some people picking up a Vita instead and canabalizing sales of the game on 3DS. For Capcom I doubt it means more sales.  I could be wrong and Capcom will make their decisions.  I don't care, I don't play handhelds and I don't play MH.  But I just doubt Capcom would bother, unless Sony is funding it, which they might, because Vita needs games.
