Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U price cut incoming?

If you're looking for a great deal on the Wii U premium black bundle and you're in the UK, you'll want to check this out! An eagle eyed NeoGaf forum member just posted an online listing from SimplyGames, which is currently offering the Wii U 32GB bundle for only £249.99, almost £60 off the launch day price.

Is this a simple case of overstock, or is Nintendo feeling out a new price for the Wii U, like they did with the 3DS? Stay tuned...

Well, they dropped the price of the N64 weeks after launch and the Gamecube even got a price drop before it was released...

They'd lose a lot of money on the hardware if they cut the price but if the numbers on VGChartz are correct then the Wii U is already dead in the water and an early price cut the only thing Nintendo could do. Seriously, 50k in early January is worse than the Gamecube did and even worse than the Vita. The whole console is a mess that could've easily been avoided if Nintendo wasn't so keen on pushing controllers with giant screens or trying to get the "hardcore" gamers to buy their system (read: play on Microsofts and Sony's home turf instead of their own)

Current sales are definitely horrendous enough to warrant a quick price cut. Nintendo is in panic mode right now - otherwise Iwata wouldn't tell the press things are alright.

Europe will probably get a price cut first, it's overpriced there. US I think they will try and hold off till around summer time.

The WiiU Premium bundle needs to be €249 before I even think about buying one.

Ya Nintendos gonna pull a 3DS on this one. WiiU will pick up momentum before competition releases and ppl will forget this launch fiasco ever happened, just like 3ds.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Panic Mode Nintendo predictions

$269.99 Black Wii U w/Nintendo Land (32GB)

$299.99 White Wii U "Soccer Mom Bundle" w/Wii Fit U + Balance Board (32GB)

Announced at E3.

Wii Sports U, Super Mario EAD Tokyo, and Mario Kart U for fall 2013; NSMBU hardware bundle (taking place of Nintendo Land) for holiday season.

The new Wii Fit really needed some kind of new gimmick though IMO, pedometer is OK but not flashy enough. People eat up stupid fitness crazes all the time.

Don't forget Next Level's Wii U version of Diddy Kong Racing!

I don't think they'll drop the price until October, and even then it might not even be a true price drop.  It might be just a liquidation of the Basic set to get rid of excess stock.  Then I bet they put together Mario and Wii Fit bundles at $299.99.   Deluxe Set will probably stay at $349.99 until mid-2014 when 720/ PS4 competition becomes fierce.

They might as well not even bother releasing Wii Fit U without a price drop to be honest. It's too expensive to get to the casuals and doesn't have the appeal. Totally sent to die.

The price point needs to get to a much more "impulse buy" level if Nintendo is going to have any chance at getting a broader audience with this thing.

Fundamentally to be honest I think the design of the system is flawed to its core though, and even price cuts and a sh*t ton of Mario and Wii/Mii retreads may not be enough. It's a system not casual enough for casuals, and not core enough for hardcore players, which leaving Nintendo's faithful fanbase, but that runs thin after a while and even there are portions of that crowd that are easily tempted away by MS or Sony if they get frustrated.

I would love to see a pricecut. Doesn't Nintendo already take a decent loss per every console sold?

Also, funny fact:

2007-8 nintendo fans here at vgchartz: Price does not matter at all (Wii was a lot cheaper than hd consoles and someone dared to mention that PS360 sales would go up with a pricecut)

2013 nintendo fans: Wii U is more expensive than PS360, of course it will sell less.

Brilliant stuff.
