Forums - Politics Discussion - Obama finally doing something right.

I like to consider myself open-minded when it comes to politics. While I give any president a chance if they win, I know I have my bias (as does everyone) and I wanted Obama to lose the election as I felt he didn't deserve a second chance. Although he still doesn't deserve to be in office (In my opinion) his actions over gun control have been a nice thing to see.

I am tired of some insane person running into a crowded area killing each other and listening to both sides say how horrible it is and neither of them doing a damn thing about it. I am also tired of these gun people spinning ANY attempt at a solution as (YOU'RE TAKING MAH RIGH!). If you don't want gun control I can't wait to see what measures your side takes to stop these crazy acts.

As far as I can see this issue goes down like this. Shooting -----> Emotion ------------> Democratic party offers a solution --------------> R party cries about it ------------> Democratic party does nothing ----------------> Nothing happens. GG Obama.

News flash, this legislation will likely do little if anything to curb gun violence. What gun control legislation often does accomplish is expand the black market and help fund organized crime. There is no utopian society, many issues have no potential solution. Use logic and reason, there is no way to justify limiting individual freedom when there is no evidence that it will serve to correct the problem at hand. I wish people would stop tripping up over themselves to violate the constitution while growing the ever expanding, ever obtrusive nanny-state while doing nothing to help. I wish people would stop allowing their emotions to cloud their judgement. I wish that tragedies such as the Newtown shooting wouldn't cause such knee-jerk reactions. Sure, it's an awful event that we all wish that we could have prevented but guess what, there might have been no way to do so, let alone without going against the intent of the Founding Fathers or the basic tenants of democracy.

the only thing that will solve gun violence other then people not loosing their god damn minds , is doing away with all guns, and i'll leave it at that.

Mit Romney is a hypocrite (IMHO)

Who is getting their freedom limited? And if they are how so? Should people be able to do anything they want and own w/e they want and as much of it as they want with? Right to bear arms =/= government trying to control weapons (whose only purpose is to kill MANY people and notihng else). When Government tries to ban every weapon then I will join you.

If his acts have no effect on these events, then I hope they keep trying to figure this problem out. Doing nothing solves nothing. Saying an issue can't be solved does nothing. Making a few attempts that doesn't really have an negative effect on anyone could potientially do nothing as well, but its a start and better then doing nothing.

Like that'll happen.

You guys act like the people who truly want these guns won't be able to get them when we have gun laws. The people who truly want these guns could care less about some laws.

Maybe, but this issue has many aspects. One of the issues I find is how fucked up society is and how they treat people. Everyday selfish selfdirecting people make life hard on everyone and they wont change. Many of us are fucked up and the bad attitude is not good for anyone. It isn't just about letting the looner play dodgeball with you its about not treating people like you're better then them (which is what 99% of all of us do). Wanna know who breads alot of this crazy shit? The indivual actions of the majority people of this world. I am sick of sick people. A vast majority of people need major change and self relflection.

In other words: I blame alot of the crazy shit people do on the everyday selfishness of the average person, just as much as I blame the fucked up person.

People are getting their freedom to wage unlimited war on the government limited.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

"doing away with all guns"

Okay, until someone manages to locate an all powerful god or djinn willing to do mankind's bidding that can simply "magic" all existing firearms away with a wish, that's not going to happen. Ever.

There are places in the world where a fully automatic AK-47 can be bought for the equivalent of about $30 USD to put things in perspective. If someone wants one, they'll have to pay more to get one through illegitimate means if they're in a region where such firearms have been made illegal, but to think that by passing a law outlawing its sale or possession equates to a miraculous, magical reality in which they will never be present is so naive it's beyond laughable.

You'd be better off trying to legislate states of mind between sane and mentally ill.

The idea is to limit the ease. Murderers ignore the law but there is still laws against it.

People are getting their freedom to wage unlimited war on the government limited.

or more generally, they are getting the fundamental right to self defense restricted.

but people like you wont let pesky little things like constitutionally enummurated rights, get in your way of control.
