The Xbox 360 dominates in USA and UK for 3 reasons :

- Patriotism : american and english buying the american console
- Marketing
- Shooterzzzz (Halo, Gears, COD)
- Casual audience (Kinect)

That's a pretty ignorant statement.. If you look at history as I have (got my degree in history) you'll see violence is present throughout nearly every culture throughout time, at least to an extent. I will agree that American media loves to hone in on violence to boost ratings, but that doesn't mean the American public loves violence.

Also, let's be honest here, is the PS3 lineup really less violent than the 360's?

Tbe public loves violence. Doesn't makes us monster but we are sadistic in a sense. We love to see one guy take out like 25 guys with a machine gun. We like to see the hero take out his enemies in the most brutal ways possible. Also, i base my statement in the fact that the 360 gets special streament on these violent video games because the 360 is known, or at least it was before the kinect, to be the hardcore console while the PS3 was more towards a middle ground and the Wii being for 4 year olds and Zelda fans and also cause they sold better on the 360. GTA4 got timed exclusives, CoD games get timed exclusives not to mention it has big franchises focused heavy on combat (Halo and GoW)

The PS3 does have a violent line up as well but we're not talking about the PS3, are we? Gratz on the history degee btw.

I think the price was the biggest contributor to its success. It has always remained cheaper than the PS3. To most gamers, a cheaper console with pretty much the same games and graphics seemed like a better deal than the PS3. Blueray wasn't really a selling point. Ofcourse, many gamers might have regretted that decision after they realised Live was not free.

The average pricepoint of the Xbox 360 is higher than the one for the PS3.

Anyway: As you can see in this thread people see the Xbox 360 as the console that does it all. Some say it is because of Kinect and the focus on the casuals, some say it is due to XBL Apps, some say it is due to FPS and even violence for the core. It is all of these reasons combined and MS is smart enough to let people know.

Simple, isn't it?

No.  It isn't.  It hasn't been.  Especially in the first few years.

Because just like the United Kingdom they have excellent taste? :P

Seriously though, I wonder why the UK love the X360 so much when most European countries don't...

Hmm...

Because the british love to love things that the americans love!

plain and simple really lol

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

Yeah, that article has some fail moments in it... And it really isn't bringing some new, interesting aspects or answers to the table. It's almost as if... someone only wanted to write about their favorite console in a glorified way!!

Internet journalism (gaming journalism anyways) is a joke! They're all a bunch of fan boys!!

I guess we could call it... counter-colonialism!! The British may have colonized (read: stolen) North America, but now the tables have turned! USA is slowly turning Britain into USA JR! *gasps* It's a conspiracy!

This is the reason.

The PS3 launch price in the US was $499 to $599.

The XBox360 launch price - and the price for several years - was lower than the PS3.  By the time they were similar in price, it was too late to make up significant ground.  The PS3 still does not have a $199 model on the market.

Without reading the article.

1. Exclusives - It has a few exclusives that sell more than any PS3 exclusive in America. Particular Halo, which sells over 8m there, way more than any PS3 exclusive. And after Halo, it has Gears of War which is also bigger than any PS3 exclusive in America. And last time I checked, even Left 4 Dead sold more than every PS3 exclusive in America, except for Uncharted and God of War (which both sell about 3m in America).

2. Xbox Live - The 360 was the first console with an adequate online system. Once people became a part of the system, they felt attached to it and didn't want to leave. This also encouraged new gamers to choose the 360 because their friends already owned a 360. This was particular effective in America because America tends to favor online games (shooters) over other nations.

3. Head Start - Not just the launch head start, but also the entire PS3's pre-2009 life. During this time, the 360 got Halo & Gears while the PS3 had no counter in America. During this time, much of the PS3's multiplats were vastly inferior to the 360's multiplats. The principle here is the same as with Xbox Live. When people bought games like Call of Duty and more American-centric games, they would obviously choose Xbox. And once people chose Xbox, there was no reason to switch.

4. Kinect - Just look at sales history. In 2009 and the first half of 2010, 360 sales were declining and it looked like the console had peaked. In fact, during the first half of 2010, the PS3 and 360 sold on par in America. But once Kinect released, the 360 took off in America and never looked back.

5. Marketing - Microsoft's marketing is particular effective in America.

You pretty much nailed it.  I would also ad:

6. Price.  For a very long time XBox was significantly cheaper than PS3.

7. HD.  The Wii doesn't offer it.  So in combo with #6 360 was the most affordable way to get HD gaming.

8.  The rise of COD.  With Live, the cheaper system price, and the larger user base from the head start XBox became the best place to play COD.  COD became by far the biggest annual gaming franchise. COD pushed the 360 as the standard.
