Xbox 360 has 65 percent market share in Brazil

Thursday 11 October 2012 | 19:31 CET | News

The decision to produce the Xbox 360 in Brazil and thus reduce the cost of the console for Brazilian consumers has made the video game console from Microsoft the most popular on the local market. This has been confirmed by a GFK study that shows that the Microsoft console has a 65 percent market share on the Brazilian game market. Only one year ago, when the Xbox being sold in Brazil was still imported, the console had a 5.9 percent share. The survey took into account different consoles, including the PS3, PS2 and Master System. The Xbox 360 is being sold for BRL 799.

Wow.. that kind of surprises me, I always thought Playstation brand was a monster here in Brazil. That's good to know...

Around the Network

Playstation brand is slowly dying everywhere.

States, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, AUS, UK and others countries...

Sony is in such a bad position when it comes to brand, Bravia is dead, Playstation Portable and Vita are Dead and only god knows what will happen with Ps4.

One thing is for sure, Japanese wont care they already have 3DS and Wii U, Americans Wont Care they will Have Xbox 3 and only Europe can save Sony but Europe isnt saving Vita right now so EU probably will just do the same with Ps4.

Bad times for Sony indeed.

Sony needs a major rehaul of Ps3 dashboard on Ps4, a new Controller and some Brand defining exclusive.

Plus Sony is bleeding money, will they have the money to throw a powerfull Console around and most important to market it ?

Sony needs to kill their handhelds and Bravia business right now and concentrate everything on Ps4 and Ps3, its the only thing they have left. That and their amazing movies, Love Sony Pictures

A full 2012 explain the fact of two PES in the list and no recent release... I want to know a December list alone.

That's not fair. Brazilians need new shit.

Hold on a bit. PS3 and 360 are about equal in sales, with PS3 outselling 360 most weeks since 2009. Is MS in a bad brand position?

MS is making 6 bilion per quarter. More than Sony does in 20 years.

It is... the 65% market share is just for the late 2012 months after August... the PS3 sold almost twice the 360 lifetime... before the console manufacture here the 360 had less than 10% of the market share.

The good news is PS3 is to be manufactured here early this year... so the market share will change in PS3 favor again.

The lifetime sales in Brazil seems like...

PS3: ~1600k
360: ~1000k
Wii: ~500k

PS. I overstimate the 360 sales a little.

No Halo on 360? Brazillians love guns

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

That's the full 2012 chart... no game released in November/December except Call of Duty have sales enough to enter in the TOP10.

And Brasillians loves football (soccer)... there are a lot of guys that just have a console to play PES.

Xbox is growing pretty fast in Brazil. Amazing how far MS has come.

Next Gen will be massive for Xbox Brand. Cant Wait!

Unsurprisingly Football games are big there, but there charts are all over the place, New games seem to sell with older editions of the game for some reason

Xbox One, PS4 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)
