Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA Calls Fox Out on Insulting Mass Effect Inaccuracies

F that. They should have just used the tried and true American way. Sue Them for defamation and potential lost sales. :)

Wow. I just watched it on youtube, and just wow. I admit, it's Fox and it's an american news channel, so of course they want ratings. However, to let that much inaccuracy be said in a few minutes really can't help them in the long run, can it?

Ignoring the inaccuracies, what was probably the worst part about that segment is that they didn't even give Geoff much time to say much of anything. I think he was able to correct two of her mistakes, but he wasn't really given any more time to say anything else. That just seems very unprofessional to me.

Well to be fair it is Fox News.  Fox news as a whole is seen as a completely off the wall news source that no one really finds accurate except really really consvertive republicans.

It's basically the Colbert report but the people saying this stuff actually believe it.

For example they are blaming a large part of the possible recession on "The Stock Market being afraid that a democrats are going to win the whitehouse."

Basically it'd be like if you took the fanboys of one of these three consoles on this site... and gave them 24 hours a day to fill.

Good Job EA, I hate Fox news esspesially Bill O'Reilly.

@Kasz
True, Fox probably isn't the best place to get good and unbiased news. Still though, like you said, at least with the Colbert Report most people who watch it know that it is just for fun. With Fox though, there are bound to be a large number of people who see this(and probably many other news reports that are just as bad) and think that most of it was pure, unbiased fact, and this really scares me.

This isn't exactly going to bring down the video game industry, but to many it will be seen as a red mark against the industry, and to me that is very unfortunate.

The people that watch Fox don't want the truth. They want reassurance that their worldview is the only correct one. They want to be entertained and motivated to keep doing the things they were already doing. Most of all, they want to be fed hatred and fear of everything and everyone different from them, and to wrap themselves up in an incestuous blanket of smug self-satisfaction.

I wouldn't put it so harshly.  But that's basically how it goes.  People are more willing to believe silly comments that fall in line with there world view then reality.  This is true of most people actually, just Fox News is the first to particularly cater to it.

Heck, that can proven in a number of threads here where people hurridly post articles from bloggers, analysts and websites with questionable numbers just to prove their own individual points and say something smug and jump to conclusions... even when those articles are often the needle in the haystack.

As some people have said before me, it's not like Fox is the only news source that does this. While it doesn't excuse what they did, I do think people are being overly harsh. All the major sources do that sort of thing. Most people here have less of an issue with those because they cater to their personal world view. The same "people who watch Fox do so because it says what they want to hear" can be said of people watching CNN, MSNBC, and others.

Geoff was killing her.  I like that EA is going into to this but I have new respect for Geoff. I think he knew this was a trap but he went in swinging anyway.  I think they cut Geoff off because he was making too good of an argument.  He looked like the good guy (which we all know he was) so Faux was like "Oh Crap, people will find out the truth for once, hurry switch to our paid panel!!"  You can tell because when they cut the "expert" she was like, "Let me at him" which really meant "Give me a chance, I can make this look good for us. Please, he wasn't gonna win."

Kudos to Geoff....in fact is there somewhere I can go and say good job to him. *Goes off to search*

I'm glad EA responded to them, Fox definitely screwed up the story and most of their panel was ill-informed (although I did agree that the game isn't for kids).  The psychology chick especially was way off base and had practically none of her facts right.

With that said I just love how the internet can make this:

into this:

But please don't let me interrupt, I find it all amusing really
