Forums - Gaming Discussion - Australia gets its first R18+ rated video game

AFTER MANY YEARS OF BEING STUCK WITH BANNED GAMES AND CENSORED VERSION. FINALLY R18+ is allowed..

AND YOU WIL NEVER GUESS WHICH SYSTEM IT IS ON

.

After more than a decade of lobbying, gamers will soon be able to purchase Australia's first R18+ video game, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge.

AUSTRALIA'S first R18+ video game is about to hit shelves.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge received an R18+ rating from the Classification Board this morning.

The last incarnation of the game, Ninja Gaiden II was previously available in Australia but it was modified to meet the MA 15+ rating.

The R18+ rating came into effect on January 1 and comes just months after the bill to introduce an R18+ rating for games passed in Parliament.

Ron Curry, CEO of the Interactive Gaming and Entertainment Association told news.com.au that he was glad the board had "immediately adopted the use of an R18+ classification because that's what we have asked for, for a long time."

"What we need to monitor is how it needs to be applied going forward," he said.

The CEO said the R18+ would be used liberally to begin with.

"This is to be expected," he said. "Everybody needs to get used to what it looks like and how it feels, and we will probably see the rating used with caution to start with."

"Then they'll loosen up."

Nintendo hasn't released an official launch date for the game but said that people should keep their eyes tuned to its website for updates.

So does Ninja Gaiden 3 deserve an R18+ rating? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Good for Australia opening up a little bit. Sure a surprise though.

EDIT: added the ED-ED-ED-ED for effect.

That's not trolling, that's timing.

Well it seems that Nintendo is not for kids anymore! Take that haters!
Nintendo is hardcore now and the PS3 and 360 is for the casuals.

Anybody able to help me out, where can I see Australia's sales on this site now. I used to be able to a few years ago, do I need to 'go pro' now? Sorry for the off topic question, but better than making a new thread.

It will be interesting to see if some of the banned games get an official release now or not. Or if publishes will say they probably bought it on eBay lol.

No worries about off topic, I too been wondering about that myself in recent weeks. Especially since the Wii U midnight launch seemed to go OK.

The one I went to in melb for like 5mins as I was going home lol about 60-70 Wii Us were stacked up ready for pickup.

So it begins... It looks like Nintendo, at long last, got their revenge for the Mortal Kombat fiasco back in 1993.

*sheds tear*

This marks the beginning of a new era. An era in which Nintendo will no longer be defined by those who hates them, but by those who loves and supports them. For the widespread "casual argument" is hereby defunct, and those who dare claiming that Nintendo is the reason behind their consoles' lack of "mature" titles shall, starting this day, be forced to face the truth that has now been so patently revealed. Nintendo is a hardcore video game company, and those who choose to deny that fact will be unmasked as the blatant liars that they really are; not only to their fellow men, but also to themselves. The suppression of Nintendo fans ends now.

LEAVE LUCK TO HEAVEN!
