Forums - Nintendo Discussion - If Metroid: Other M sales over take any of the three before it will you accept that it was a good game?

Other M managed to sell respectable numbers at iPhone game prices.

It did not make the kind of money Nintendo wanted it to make, and if we ever get another Metroid game in that style then it is because whoever is in charge of greenlighting these projects wants to lose his job.

I gotta stick up for Other M, probably one of the ten most underrated games ever made.

Not as good as the Metroid Prime Trilogy or Super Metroid, but a really excellent game.

I very much enjoyed Other M and don't get why people hate it. People complain that Samus is too emotional, but she's human and we have emotions, complex emotions. People complain that Adam gives her orders, but that's the way military works and she was working with the military. The gameplay was solid and the environments where pure Metroid exploration fun and the boss fights were a lot like the classic games.

That's how you lose any chance on the title "VGC newcomer of the year".

Gotta stand up for what I believe.

Metroid: Other M is a good game, but it is not a good Metroid game.

I give it 3.5/5.

-The story had plot holes all over the place, and it destroyed the characterization of Samus that we have had for decades.
-Exploration was minimal.
-No health or ammo drops from enemies really changes how the game is played.
-Samus is too acrobatic. In the 2D games, dodging was based on well timed and well planned jumps. You couldn't just flip all over the place. Samus has always been a bit of a tank. Not so in this game. This becomes a serious issue in hard mode, since you basically spend most of the game dodging something.
-The parts where you are frozen in place and need to look at something are annoying. This is a minor problem since there are so few of them. However, there was one that had me stuck for at least 5 minutes.
-Why can't you move when using missiles? In all other games it is easy to swap from your beam to missiles and back. This game makes it a huge ordeal to fire missiles.

That's what I can remember off the top of my head. It has been awhile since I played it.

I always thought it was a good game. I think people are too caught up in the identity of Samus and ignored a fun game with good 2D Metroid gameplay. The only real negative was the way they finalized its controls. They should have just used nunchuk/wiimote vs the whole wiimote and turn it to screen crap.

Not to take this off topic, but can you fish, or fight an epic Ganon battle on a fortress, or ride a horse for hours in Skyward sword? Epic! Flying is fine, but it gets tedious and you do not really need it. Epona got you across a huge world that would have taken forever without her.

@ Others

So if I did not know the story of Metroid this game would be fine? Also we just got a new shipment of Other M at my walmart. Bring on the sales baby!

I wouldn't say that. In fact, playing through the other games enhances Other M. At least to me. It's painfully clear I'm in the minority.

Playing through Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion will provide a lot of context.

Metroid: Other M is a renaissance for 2D shooter platformer. If only Megaman could get a game this good.

I liked it. I wouldn't replay it, but I liked it much better than any of the Prime games, cause I hate FPS. And scanning rooms. And depressing music. And depressing loneliness.

Skyward Sword, though, is a different beast. It's one of the most ambitious and deep and amazing achievements in gaming, and those not playing it are missing out so hard it's not even funny.
