*looks at Nintendo and MS 7th gen market share then compares to 6th gen*
Yeah Sony is the only loser this gen. This is FACT, unless Sony somehow can earn back their market share in the next 10 months, they lost this gen regardless of whether they outsell the X360 by a margin or not.

Well, this thread really blew up.

also in 2011 the xbox 360 sold more than ps3...officil shipment data of course

wii outsold both of them for 4 years anyway, so the author of this post wouldnt use words like worldwide system leader talinkg about ps3

and ps3 isnt the leader in any of big territories like na,eu or jp

This is a very unfair way of looking at it. After last gen, MS and Nintendo could only go up because GC and Xbox utterly failed against the dominating PS2. Can't expect them to continue dominating forever.

It's actually the correct way to look at it, although I don't think you can call Sony, at least the play station brand a loser this generation.  but in terms of profibilty and just a increase in market share overall Sony just wasn't able to compete with ms and Nintendo this generation. Sales are important and Sony has done a great job of getting on top in sales, but sometimes where you sell is more important and while this a diverse community the USA is still the single most important market and while it may upset many to hear this Japan is almost irrelevant at this point given its economic power.  Keep in mind Sony has been damaged so much this generation, the actual existence of Sony as a company is in question in the next 10 years.

It can be argued that it's also unfair to add Japan to the equation since MS no longer competes there. Remove Japan, remove X360 one year lead and you have apples to apples. If you wanna go further then also remove RROD and Blu-Ray only PS3s...

Nintendo proved just a few things for the now 5 gen.'s they've been in the games industry, and that's that you have to go backwards before you can go forward. and you've got to start ahead to get ahead.

example ninity home systems ww:

NES 60m won the 3rd gen.

SNES 50m won the 4th gen.

GC 21m

Wii 100m

WiiU  N/A who knows, Ninty may go 2 for 2 lol

the thing i don't understand is how Sony simply contradicts this. Sony went forward to go backwards

example:

PS1 105m

PS2 more then 155m

PS3 72m

srry i forgot what my point was lol. oh yea. Nintendo won from behind, while Sonywas lossing ahead. makes no sense. or does it.

The Wii is an anomaly. This has been talked about before.

The PS2 actually earned it's market share from rivals. The Wii simply created a new market that for all intents and purposes wasn't there before it. Problem is  that blue ocean market no longer belongs to Nintendo so they gotta move on(Wii U).

The PS3 is one amazing machine and the GLOBE agrees judging by its continuous sails! No doubt about it.

If you want to try and insult people and be uncivil, don't be surprised when people ignore you.  Your comparison is still pathetic.

I wasnt insulting you, but if you want to come up with ludicrous statements and ideas just so your preference can win, then dont be surprised when people call you out on it.

Whats pathetic is suggesting we ignore the 2nd largest videogame market just because one console sells like shit.

So you at least conceded that the 360 outsells the PS3 every year without Japan, even if its ludicrous?  That was my point, nothing more or less.  Japan is the only reason this happened.  Its not about winning or losing, its about understanding why this occurred.  The 360 has 7% market share there while the PS3 has 23% in NA.  Japan is clearly massively skewed compared to the rest of the world and its that region alone which made the difference this gen.  I'm not asking he removed them for a comparison to say the 360 won, it was so when you look at the figures without Japan its clear to see that their is no massive extra demand globally for the PS3, they've been very similar outside of Japan.

Actually, you're wrong...PS3 outsold 360 even in 2012, 2009 without Japan. Amazing, no?

Why are you also ignoring the "others" region where PS3 also dominates 360?

So it outsold it for the other 5 years, doesn't really change my point which you side stepped because I was right.

In others the PS3 outsells by a fair margin it is comparable with the reverse in the US.  Whether you like it or not Japan is the difference between the 2 consoles, pure and simple.  I didn't say ignore where the PS3 sells well, I pointed out one regions clear dislike of the Xbox brand which is a completely different trend to the rest of the globe that skews the figures.

I don't see how it would have been possible for Sony to maintain market share this generation...Nintendo and Microsoft sold so badly last gen that it was almost just Sony.

Gamecube: 21-22 million
Xbox: 24-25 million
PS2: 155 million

For the PS3 to maintain it's lead they would have had to sell over 500 million PS3s.
