Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 Outsells 360 Every Year except '06 & '08

So I was reviewing the VGChartz yearly Hardware sales , and Worldwide, Sony's PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 Every single year except for 2006 and 2008!! That means 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 all belong to PS3 as the worlwide leader in console sales. You can say want you want about the 360 and North America, but bottom line is how many consoles the company has sold through out the world....and Sony has done better at that, clearly! Seven years of both systems being available on the market and Sony's platform did out performed 5 of the 7 years.

I only looked it up because I've been watching the weekly global numbers for months on end now, and all except the special holiday sales times, Sony consistenly outsold Microsoft. And sure enough, after checking the yearly hardware numbers....it's just no contest. And I know it's been said before, but the extra year on the market for the 360 doesn't make a difference in the end.

So while it's been a rough generation for Sony as far as PERCEPTION goes....in reality Sony knows they continue to lead the gaming market, not Microsoft. Now in 2013, if the rumors are true, both consoles will ship practically side by side......Sony knows they are about to take the lead for this furture generation again, but this time with the PERCEPTION of leading, as well as actually leading.

****EDIT**** Updated it to correct years

You mean nintendo has been leading the hardware market every year but 2011 and 2012, and to be fair Microsoft's sales compared to Sony's were within Vgchartz's margin of error in 2011.

And if we want to talk about swinging momentem. Lets compare consoles to their predessessors. 24mil->80mil+ for the 360. 155mil->80mil+ for the PS3. 20mil->100mil+ for the Wii.

Logically one would think that Microsoft and Nintendo continue expanding and Sony continues declining. But wait Nintendo consoles were declining every generation until the Wii came out? Could that mean that console sales depend on the console the company provides and not the actual company. So I guess we are going to have to wait and see what sony and microsoft release before making those bold predictions.

Yes, a correction needs to be made....I meant 2006 and 2008, thanks.

So what happened in 2008? Did Microsoft decide to release 3 exclusives that year instead of the usual 2 or 1?

I made no "bold predictions." All I said was PS3 outsold the 360 all those years. It's just to say that Sony is out performing Microsoft pretty consistantly. It's not a comparison article to the life of playstation products, or a comparison to Nintendo (which while it's still tecnically a competitor, it's not really as they were going after different consumers for the most part)

So please, comment about the topic in question here, not everything but.

That's not even a prediction. It's a fact.

i'm pretty sure bot have almost the same amount of exlusives, xbox maybe even more released in western.

@topic

who would have thought before this gen that sony has to fight so hard to win the years with only such a slight advantage

quality exclusives? Very little is known about Microsoft exclusives other than the big 3 (Gears, Halo and Forza). I mean, are you counting Kinect titles? I would hardly call those video games. More like a fitness workout. Oh btw, is this why Kinect is so popular in the U.S? Since Kinect could be perceived to be a good way of of losing weight and since the U.S population is....never mind.
