I will keep saying this and I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but games are the most important, not graphics.

You're right! Games is what matters, and as of right now Wii U don't have them... And it doesn't look as if 3rd parties will support it for a while, which means less games. And the reason why PS360 got such good support from 3rd parties was because the both of them were similar in power, and Wii was low tech. If this repeats itself this gen Wii U won't be getting them games - only the Nintendo exclusive ones, so it'll sell somewhere around 20-40m, but that ain't no sprinter or marathoner..

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

sales pick up because their price were lower. When the next xbox and Playstation come out, we can see how the Wii U will sell in that generation. Before that, of course it is not going to sell better than others shipper console with more games on their library.

you may be right, it is stretching right now.

Sprinter. Only Sony consoles are marathon runners, they have the tendency to sell for a very long period of time.(altough Microsoft did good with 360, Kinect and S model had its effect)

I think it needs more game in the next 4/6 months and a price cut just before NewBox or Sony?4? will release to be ok!

The PS3/360 were future proofed because of their bleeding edge specs for the time.

They were bred to be marathon runners.

Wii U is definitely not that. It needed a good start much moreso.

Imo the games will decided that, not the graphical advantages.

Even if that were true, which I don't think is entirely accurate (games like CoD, BioShock, Battlefield, etc. would not be the same experience on lesser hardware), Nintendo is out of luck here because third parties don't give two hoots about them.

And Nintendo is somewhat their own worst enemey here because they refuse to let go of the Mario/Zelda/DK/Pokemon safety blanket. Are they willing to invest real marketing and development dollars on an IP to attract new audiences now that the casual gaming bubble looks to have burst for them?

We'll see.

I will keep saying this and I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but games are the most important, not graphics.

Nintendo will need to play a big part in accomplish that, that's for sure. Looking back at the PS2 (the weakest console in terms of power during that gen) and the console took all of the third parties attention and people didn't care the graphics were worst (just to give one example: RE 4). I'm not saying history will repeat itself with the Wii U (after all I don't have a crystal ball), but last gen brought us so many surprises that anything could happen, nothing is set in stones.

but graphics are down to a consoles power and lets be honest the WiiU's power is considered on the same level as PS360, it might be stronger yes but not by much. and what is the real reason games like Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim havent been released on the wii? is it because of thrid parties hating nintendo? no thats just a childish claim. its because the Wii couldnt play those games, not in a million years. yes games are the most important, but console power is an important part to getting these games. its why games like battlefield3 released on ps360, it was because they were desgined to last. can you honestly say the same about the WiiU?

wiiU will easily cross the 30 million mark. one of the benifits that the nintendo got from the wii was making their games really popular. just look at mario kart. the GC version sold 7 million. the Wii version 33 million!!. nintendo franchises are more popular than ever thanks to the Wii, and those alone will help it pass the 30 million without a sweat. it will take a lot for the WiiU not to sell over 40 million

Like I said before developers wouldn't have to make an exact game. Capcom made RE: Deadly Visions for the DS and that game worked great for the system. Rockstar made GTA: ChinaTown Wars also for the DS and that game is incredible fun. Okamiden is another example. Good developers know how to work around the systems they have in their hands, it does not mean the games will need to be exact to other versions.

Nintendo and PC gamer

If it's a marathon runner then it has water (=games) for approximately 500 meters.

Seriously with almost no games scheduled beyond spring and such a low launch price, it's obvious that Nintendo had a super short term strategy. They pushed a few core games they bought out from publishers to give an illusion of 3rd party support, which was supposed to attract non-nintendo gamers en masse, which would then boost hardware sales and convince 3rd parties to more commitment and then have even more PS360 owners excited about the system.

This virtuous cycle didn’t work, and they don’t even have room for a price cut given the borderline profitability.

This just isn't true.  "years after"?

The PS3 sold 13m and was at 32.5m at then of its 3rd full year (thats only the end of 2nd full year in Europe).  Nobody thought it would stop at 40m by then.  Year 1 perhaps... but even then not many predicted that.

During 2008 (year 2 for the pS3 & year 3 for the 360), the consoles appeared to be very low selling consoles. I would say late 2009 is the year people knew the PS3 would be a high selling console.
