Forums - NSFW Discussion - A few questions to all who think sexual preference is a choice

Sexuality is one of our most ancient discussions; a topic that even after so many years still tend to result in heated debates. Some think that homosexuality is wrong, others think it is perfectly fine. Some think that bi-, homo-, and heterosexuality is a choice, others think we were born to develop whatever turns out to be our sexuality (i.e. our genes decide) - or simply that our environment to some degree chose our current sexuality for us: Thus suggesting that it is, in fact, not a choice. In this thread I am going to focus on the people who believe that sexual preferences can be selected, by asking the following questions:

1. If you were to watch gay pornography, would you be able to choose to get a boner and actually enjoy the video?

2. Whenever you see a hot chick and your penis becomes erect, are you actually able to choose to stop being sexually attracted to her and thereby "deactivate" the boner, but choose not to?

3. If yes, where the hell can I get these super powers?

Thanks in advance.

1. No because I chose to be straight.
2. Idk anyone who can deactivate a boner, but I can be turned off by several things for instance if I look closer and see that she has hairy armpits or something.
3. idk

To make a long story short (and for the record I'm not Christian so I can't speak on their behalf) But what they idea about being Gay or Bi-Sexual ect... Is not "not being attracted". As you said you have no control over sexual attraction. However, the idea is that it is a test to see whether you will give in to those desires and have sex with someone of the same gender or whether you will wait to marry the opposite gender. The thing is, I don't make much distinction between those who have extra marital sex and those who are gay AND AND ACTUALLY PRACTICE THEIR SEXUAL DESIRES . These are both people who can't resist any kinds of urges. I don't hate them in any way, but I believe that what they are doing is wrong.

I think the debate that Christians have turned the gay issue into a matter of choice and not choice hurts the whole argument. Being attracted to something is not a choice, acting upon that attraction is something entirely different.'

And for those who say that if you are attracted to the same gender but don't actually act on it is denying who you truly are, I have to ask them one question. If I don't hump every girl that I meet that I am attracted to, am I being "not true to myself"? After you have religion and the belief that doing something like that is wrong, the choice is up to you. Shall I try to restrain my desires for the sake of what I believe is a godly good. Or should I do the thing that makes me most satisfied.

THAT is the choice that everyone has to make albeit about different matters, subjects, tests ect....

I think we are naturally straight yet manipulated to be gay through early life. See it's kinda like drinking. A kid drinks alchohol and thinks "what the fuck is this shit, why the hell do you drink such trash?" It's only as we learn from society that liquer is good do people actually enjoy drinking it. This sounds weirder than I expected.

You will end up with a girl , so if you are a muslim you will restrain your desires until you get married and you won't have to hump every other girl, cuz you will get what you want eventually and you will please your god, that's easy but... How is that comprable to restraining yourself until you die (in case you were gay)? it's not!

1. No I can't cause it wouldn't arouse me at all.
2. I can't control my penis getting an erection, but I can sort of deactivate a boner. I usually do that when I get it in a public place. What works for me is, I hold my breath for a minute and think about something else, and it goes away. I'm not sure if it will work for everyone.

First, I think, we have to entertain the idea that all homosexual people are not created equal. What I mean by that is perhaps there are different roads to the same destination. Perhaps there are gay people who born that way, some who end up that way from environmental factors, and some who get there by some degree of unconscious choice.

The reason I believe the last exists is from personal experience. Someone I've known since we were kids ended up being gay. Except, honestly, I don't think he was to start with. I remember him being hopelessly besotted with two different girls, neither of which worked out at all. One basically used him and the other was an unrequited love he harbored for years. He was pretty emo, and arrogant on top of that, so he kind of retreated into this "I'm different from everyone else" frame of mind, where he imagined himself as gifted and special. In fact, he adopted a homosexual artist as his idol. Still, at that point, I think he would have just considered himself bi-sexual or something like that, but a college professor known for having affairs with both boys and girls put the moves on him.

Now, you might be thinking that the last part is supposition, but A) he told me about their affair, and B) awhile later, the same professor tried to pressure me into ... stuff. He kept finding reasons to get me into his office for talks. He flattered me and told me how smart I was, then he would bring up his views on sexuality and how love should be free and open. He talked himself up, told me that he was the smartest person I would ever meet (honestly), then asked me if I was attracted to him, because he was attracted to me. I avoided the absolute hell out of him after that. Not because he was bi-sexual, but because he was obviously trying to pressure students into sex, which I think makes him a scumbag. I'm sure he saw me as an easy mark because I was quiet and not very social, just as he saw my friend as an easy mark for being gullible and susceptible to flattery.

Obviously, none of that is proof, but it's something I believe. I'm almost certain environmental factors, as well as a conscious direction, were big reasons why he considers himself gay now. Never mind his overbearing, overprotective mother who spoiled him and controlled his life completely.

As far as the questions in the OP, sexual association is -extremely- powerful. Conditioning probably could take care of the first two questions.

yeah that would be funny if you could choose it, i would change my sexual preference every few minutes then always depending who is close to me right now haha
