No double platinum.... I no longer want it!

In all seriousness, I am not sure what to make of this. One the one hand, it could be an experiment for next gen with a more flexible pricing structure, like the Vita has. But, M$ released Banjo and Kazooie for $40 a few years ago, so it could just be a one off because they know the brand isn't that strong?

80k pre orders for a series that has been non existent for 7 years shows signs of interest among consumers for this brand. I just think that Sanzaru games have to first prove themselves for people to actually become interested in this game and for future installements of the game. It's the first time another developer has made a Sly game so some people may be on the edge.

But it is not like Sly was ever a very large franchise, none have ever sold more 2m and the collection only managed 500k (which is admittedly better than Jak.

It all depends on how much it really cost, but you would suspect lower than $20m (the suggested figure for Uncharted 1 and 2), which means it has to sell around 1m copies to break even, without any advertising. I would guess it would be an experiment to see if selling it for 1/3 sell will make up for the lower revenue per unit, but we will never know Sony's thinking.

The price drop alongside the cross play and people are still complaining I’m just speechless, this was game I was really sitting on the fence, from someone that’s never played the originals.. not quite sure how I missed them tbh but an $80 entry cost for something I mightn’t enjoy is far too steep, $50 price tag along side a vita copy has me buying this on day one.

I say good move.

1.) This game was never going to sell that amazingly
2.) People are always talking about having tiered release prices, and honestly this game was probably not worth $60

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

It could be $10 I still wouldn't get it.

Why are you commenting on a thread about Sly Cooper if you don't enjoy the series?

You can't say that for sure

That's not a very apt comparison :P

Sly has sold 480k in 2-and-a-bit years, Jak sold 450k in less than a year.  Sorry, just thought it needed pointing out.

Otherwise, I agree with your post.  Sly has never been a big franchise, this game won't change that.

This is great, more developers need to adopt responsive pricing. A lot of these titles without the mind blowing visuals, mass market appeal and huge marketing budgets should be priced appropriately to find themselfs an audience. I'm not worried about this games quality one inch. I was largely on the fence and was probably just going to skip the game, but now its $29 on the Vita I'll be downloading it day one (provided the UK pricing is similar). I enjoy a light paced platformer but unless its 3D mario or something unique/very impressive looking, theres no chance I'll pay full price for one.

Day 1 buy!! I love Sly Cooper S2

I was just going to wait till it went down to $30 but now I might just buy if there's any pre-order bonus
