Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fantasy Life to become a new series for Level-5

Tagged games:

Level 5 recently released their latest RPG, Fantasy Life, for the Nintendo 3DS, and it’s been selling out in Japan. While they try to get more copies onto store shelves, Level 5 are also thinking about the next game in the series.
Yes, Fantasy Life, unsurprisingly, is going to be an ongoing franchise. The news comes from Famitsu magazine (via: Game Jouhou), who asked a bunch of Japanese developers and publishers what their plans for the year ahead are.
Most developers gave the usual answers you would expect—expanding their brands, challenging new ideas and so on—but Level 5 specifically mentioned Fantasy Life, saying that they intend for it to be the first game in a larger series.
Given the success of the RPG and simulation genres on the Nintendo 3DS, it makes sense that Level 5 see greater potential in Fantasy Life. It should be interesting to see whether they add social features to the next game, given that such features have led to Animal Crossing: New Leaf being a breakout hit.
Other games that have found immense success due to communication elements in Japan are Dragon Quest IX and Tomodachi Collection on the Nintendo DS, the Monster Hunter series on PSP and 3DS, and of course, Pokémon.
Level 5 also added that they aim to find success in other areas of gaming as well, such as social games and smartphone titles.

Sorry for the horrible formatting. Siliconera is indeed a bitch to copy from.

Unsurprising, given the week 1 sales and reports of selling out. But still quite interesting to hear.

I hope it does not become yearly, we all know what happened to Layton...
At least the new Inazuma may outsell the last one.

Wow. I wonder if this will reach Layton 3ds sales...

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

Depends if it ever gets localized (if you mean worldwide sales). Layton has not been doing so hot lately, although the real test will be February 28th when the final Layton game starring Layton will release. I hope the japanese gives a crap about it.

That's true it probably won't get localized. But it will probably pass Layton in Japan, especially because, as you said, layton isn't doing too hot.
