I have a question, see I'm quite new here but are the Vita sales actually THAT bad? I do admit that I had no idea of what a Vita even was until I started lurking this site though.

The Vita looks like a great system and I do have a couple of friends that have one, but I don't see how it can be classified as a "flop" so early on.

You just contradicted youself. You say you didn't know what a Vita was, but that your friends have one?

It's not at "flop" levels just yet. It is however at very poor sales. You can't call something a flop until you get is lifetime sales. Or at the very least wait 2-3 more years and see where its at. I would have thought people would have learned by now not to count something out based on how PS3 turned things around and how its now the best selling console.

Well NOW they have one, just not a couple months back when I 1st heard about on this site (Think it was like August or something). The 1st time my friends got one was on Black Friday.

Well then you must be new to gaming in general to not have heard about Vita since it was announced way back in January

Hmm let me clarify on this a little I was aware of the name Vita since long ago. However, I had no idea that it was a psp succesor for a long time. It was only after I read articles on this site that I realized that It was a succesor, I'd always assumed it was a version of the PSP. (Like my initial thoughts about the 3ds) that was around July/August. It was then that I asked some of my Sony fan friends if they had any idea what a vita was, and that's when I learned in detail. Since then I've been looking around and seeing nothing but doom and flop threads but no other comparisons to any other console than the 3ds (kinda unfair). So compared to other consoles that haven't done well, is it still THAT bad? I mean GCN sold barely over 20mil over 5 years and that still made profits, if there is a decent price drop and some better games I think it can sell better but lets say for on a week to week comparison basis to something low selling like Dreamcast or GCN, is it doing even poorer?

It didn't help that no one talked about it in my circle,I'd have liked to find out sooner if I had known what it truly was.

That doens't make any sense. How can you only be aware of the name "Vita" but think it was some kind of PSP version? Seems like you are making this up.

There's no way you can confuse Vita and PSP based on its name. I could see how you can think that if you only looked at the console itself, but even then you can see 2 analog sticks, bigger screen, different games, Vita branding...etc.

Don't worry, it's not too late. Vita will be here for a long time. You can go buy one right now if you want.

What's so unfair about comparing a [handheld] console against its direct rival? While I think the comparisons get annoying (currently its like beating an almost dead horse), it surely is justified to do them.

I don't really quite understand why VGKing is mad at me did I do something wrong? Is there some kinda code I broke?

All I want is a comparison to something other than the 3ds, something that sold lower but still made profits like Vita might in the long run.

Don't worry, I don't think you offended him. Sometime he just doesn't react as you would expect. This can make it kinda hard to argue with him at times.

I see. Well I guess I'll stop for now.

In what way do you want to compare?  Hardware sales?  Software sales?  Profits?  All of these?  None?

Gamecube is probably your best bet.  I believe it was profitable for Nintendo despite being trounced by the competition (PS2) and only selling around 20 million lifetime.  Similar to Vita, which is getting trounced by 3DS and may manage similar numbers of lifetime sales, depending on how things turn out.

How you wish to compare them is up to you, really :P
