Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 720 Specs: Eight-core CPU, 8 GB RAM, Windows 8 Kernel?

Gamechup

Microsoft Xbox 720 could have an eight-core CPU, according to new leaks.

This latest rumour is via BD, who posts regularly on TGFC, which is a Chinese forum. What’s special about him? Well, he is an ex-Ubisoft employee, and claims to know all information about the Xbox 720, including the RAM, and plenty of other stuff.

According to him, the Xbox 720 will have an eight-core CPU, and an 8800 series GPU. This also fits in with our previous report where we mentioned that the Xbox 720 could be running on a AMD HD 8000M graphics card.

It is also said that Microsoft will be using Windows 8 kernel for the system, which is pretty straightforward, as they have been pushing it a lot. He said that it will have 8 GB memory and a 640 GB hard drive.

Treat this with a grain of salt obviously, as nothing is confirmed yet. However, these are times when insiders can leak out information for a variety of reasons. E3 2013 will be held on June 13, so not long to go before Microsoft finally unveils the system to the world.

Jesus why some media so obstinate on 8000"M" lol, there is no one in that chinese forum discussed about 8000"M",just 8000

I hope so.

We've known it will be an AMD CPU+GPU for two years...

It's inaccurate to say it will 'be an 8800' because that's a desktop SKU name. It should instead say 'will be Sea Islands'.

If true the 720 is going to be a monster.

Thats some seriius horsepower considering consokes dont have near the background tasks running like a PC does. And are much easier to optomize game engines for. If the 720 carries this power we are going to see a huge leap next gen

It seems that all the whining coming from third parties like Crytek, Square Enix and Epic are working, I also expect 8Gb ram for games, OS and other tasks.

I think one of the reasons for this is that MS wants the next xbox to be media powerhouse more than dedicated gaming console. MS is basically making a PC, which could be good or bad depending in your personal opinions.

I do wonder how much of those specs are actually going into games and how developers can use it.

If true it'll cost an arm, a leg and then some.  A GX60 will run you about 1200 for inferior specs to what's proposed here.  Microsoft is pretty smart so they'll keep the console affordable.  Maybe an AMD quad core and something around a HD 7750 hopefully.  4 GB is more than enough for a next gen console.

Yeah I fully expect the next Xbox to be a complete media hub, possibly even providing its own form of cable television.

That being said no matter what media stuff they put into the box it wouldnt come close to tapping 8 cores on the CPU and wouldnt require the 8000 series GPU either.  The main thing from the

specs that the media stuff will be pulling from is the 8 GB of RAM.  I wouldnt be surprised if 4 GB is reserved for the OS and media applications while the other 4 GB is for games.  And a 4GB RAM woukd be a huuuge difference for games considering the 360 doesnt even have 1 GB of of RAM useable between the OS and games

they didn't say they discussed about 8000m in the forum, they say the guy mentioned a 8800 series gpu and it could fit in their previous report about a 8000m.
