Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What's up with the Wii U in Japan? Where are the third party games? (Hint: Nowhere)

Will Wii U get more support than the Wii in Japan?

Asolutely, 3rd parties ar... 75 21.01%

Probably, Nintendo alread... 117 32.77%

Not so sure, It all depen... 52 14.57%

Unlikely, none of the big... 53 14.85%

No way, 3rd parties will ... 60 16.81%

Total:357

If sales take a big dip this week now that the holidays are over (we'll see on wednesday) then I'd say Wii U will have a very rough time in Japan getting support, and perhaps also a tough time in selling the console itself.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Ah, the return of the world's most sorrowful Nintendo fan (this thread, your sig bet, your sig links, actually almost anything you ever posted). Always liked your threads. They all feel like written with drought in mind while it rained outside.

They got maybe 1 year or more headstart on the competition. I think they're just taking advantage of that. No need to go into Super Saiyan mode.

But maybe it would be better if they did go Super Saiyna mode. Get a HUGE lead over PS4/720 and capture the mainstream. That's what I would have done if I ran Nintendo.

It's simple really : third parties have seen their sales reduced to nothingness in the Wii era because of the crushing presence of Nintendo's first party games and their audience progressively migrating to PS360, so they must have been dubious about WiiU from the very beginning. And now that the situation is already the same on WiiU (3rd party games have almost completely vanished from the top 100), those publishers might be even less inclined to work on WiiU.

Team Ninja seems to be eager to make for Wii U games despite having the worst-selling Wii U game....

That sig should be gone already, it sucks lol.

So what were these big name and "hardcore" franchises that 3rd Parties released on Wii that tanked and forced them to go to PS3 and 360?

I have been investigating a bit and found no new announcements or a release schedule for the next months. Probably going to have to wait until the investors roundtable at the end of the month and we may see how Nintendo tries to get out of the sink hole they are in at the moment.

Still waiting for any announcement coming from 3rd parties, but so far it has been in vain and besides DQX which is a port, I cannot find anything that will matter to the Japanese. Bayonetta is like miles away and still niche. MH3U has already slowed down and is almost out of the top 50.

As for 1st party games, NSMBU seems to be the most popular choice for new Wii U owners, with a 50% attach rate, but because HW sales are tanking the game will also drop further. Can the console reach sub 10k sales??

I think the big N has goofed and is now trying to play catch up. While the rest of the game world has been makeing games in HD for a long time I think nintendo is learning its takeing a little longer to make games for their new much more powerfull system. Gotta think about it. They have been makeing pretty much the same type of games ( size and graphics) for two generations, gamecube and wii. This new beast is a little diferent so we may see allot of delays this first year. I think thats the reason they are trying so hard with 3rd party this time because they know they gotta have it to fill in the gaps between there big games. They dont seem to be doing great there yet either so there may be a long few months ahead.

I think this might be an opportune time to revive this thread.
2 investors meetings have passed by and still, no new announcements. Not even multiplatform games are getting a Wii U version in Japan.

Looking at the upcoming 3rd party schedule we got a year old+ 3DS port coming to all HD platforms and 3 western localizations. Besides that there's nothing else and there probably won't be for a very, very long time if ever. Depressing.

Wanted to check on people's opinions now that the panorama for this year is clear.
